I used to play Tomb Raider on the original Playstation, what became the PSOne. We have a Wii and an XBox360 now, so there's no room for the PS to be used [added to which it was abit iffy whether it would read cd's - have to fix the spindle some time :blah:]. So I'm wondering, how do the PC versions …

I wouldn't risk burning such a card anyway. V4's aren't exactly all over the place Yeah, they're actually rarer than the V5's. If one goes 3dfx, then the card needs to go into an appropriate motherboard with universal AGP, or one needs to go with a PCI version. Killing old 3dfx cards is tantamount …

Are you saying: - the db card was working but you pulled it off the soundcard while the pc was switched on and you suspect that blew it or - the db card never worked whilst in your possession or - the db card worked, then you removed it with the pc turned off, and after that the card never worked …

i always found a gf2 ti-whatever worked great in socket 7. but it tempts you to try games the cpu can't handle brilliantly like quake3.

i use an sw60xg [same sound as the db's] in a 386. plenty of 386 games use midi so the card/db is useful there and lately i've been thinking i prefer it to roland sound canvas sounds. Not sure whether the xg extensions get used in 386-level games or indeed any others.

I thought the received wisdom on vogons was that most v4's should work on 1.5v, but there might have been 1 or 2 models that didn't.

I had similar almost euphoric feelings when I installed nt4 on a dual-celeron-500 box recently. The smp capability of nt4 obviously helps even more. You need to install IE4.0 [with the desktop upgrade] to get dosbox to work, afaik [and I can confirm it fixed the error I was getting].
