I remember DOS4GW 1.96 giving me a lot of problems. Try updating it to version 1.97 or newer. You could also replace it with DOS32a, which is free. Get DOS32a -> HERE

I have been able to recover some damaged floppies using VGACOPY (with retries=99) or Unstoppable.

I think some guys at the remakes compos still program using ms-dos. Still, I think ms-dos is quite dead now. I might be wrong though.

memsize=128 is bogus. I think maximum allowable is 64MB. Just leave it at the default value of 16 (you usually won't need more than 32MB for ms-dos games).

For slowing down that slower PCs I used to enter bios and disable both L1 and L2 caches.

First, I think you don't need Mo'slo from withing DOSBox. Just tweak your cycles. We need more information, specially how did you mount your drives. Did you run setup to choose sound settings? etcetera.
