In a nutshell: Some old games need VERY LOW CYCLES (maybe <3000) to be able to detect certain sound hardware.

Agreed. Even now in this Windows reign' times, I use some command-line apps. Once you type in what you want, you have full control. GUIs are nice but deceptive... 😁

Anything but IE is secure these days. If critical vulnerabilities are found, both FF and Opera will release some patch fast.

You know it could be that the version from HOTU, has problems, not the game itself. I was trying to make the HOTU version of Gametek's NOMAD to work with DosBox (and Virtual PC 2004), with no luck at all. I was able to play it on a real Dos machine, with an ISA SB16 soundcard. But I had no success …

Version from HOTU starts for me under Ykhwong's CVS build (2005-Aug-26th) but it abruptly closes after showing what seems an intro screen. UPDATE: I also get some nasty black dots artifacts using any core other than dynamic. The game seems to shut down no matter what settings I use.

I hope you are taking into account the fact that DOSBox doesn't support Glide, so you will need to run a plain-vanilla version of the game, not the Glide one.

Hmm. It should make some sense in a point where emulation would be more mature. On the other hand, having that option as selectable (choose cpu to emulate. I am not talking about speed here, just set of cpu instructions supported) would be nice.

Check your video drivers to see if they are updated. Also your direct-x installation. If all else fails, get a different SDL.DLL version.
