Upgrade VDMSound to latest version, even if it's a beta. It works properly and you don't need to be editting any .ini file. Just right-click on the .VLP shortcut and edit it's properties.

OK, I understood you the other way around. Is the program a clipper program by chance? Try setting a variable of SET CLIPPER=F150 and specify a FILES=150 setting in config.sys I have been good success running this type of apps. using VDMSound (Check the forum if you don't know what it is). I agree totally with you. I have an HP Laserjet 1200 at home and I don't use HP drivers, but a generic PCL5 driver developed by Brother that prints faster and with slighty better overall quality. Damn HP could use some learning on how to program drivers. And some Deskjet drivers are even worse.... : …

Hmmm. I meant a already compiled win32 binary, to be exact. Thank you anyway. I am not a programmer so I don't have the slightest idea on how to compile, even if I programmed some Turbo Pascal and assembler in my youth. 😁

Hmm. I take it you have already read some threads regarding this game, right? Do you have xms and ems memory enabled under dosbox.conf? Conventional memory shouldn't pose a problem for DOSBox, though.

Playing games withouth sound is just awful. You could lower the sample rate to, say, 11025Hz rather than disabling sound altogether.

The best thing you could do is to scan it using an updated antivirus and disinfect it (if possible), unless you want to keep the virus for some unknown reason.

It seems as if the IRQ of the game for soundcard does not match DOSBox's one. Try changing IRQ from 7 to 5. Also, what soundcard did you select for Alone in the dark?
