I would use Partition Magic or the such. At least it tells you THE TIME NEEDED TO PERFORM THE TASK. I remember there are two different format processes QUICK and NORMAL. It works using VDMSound if you run it with the -s command-line parameter. It works also under a regular Windows XP cmd.exe box. Don't know why it doesn't work using DOSBox 0.63 (it doesn't work even after running it with metal.exe -s). UPDATE: No need to use VDMSound at all after disabling sound …

I doubt it just because real ms-dos didn't have any LFN support. Maybe Qbix will jump in and shed some light on this. In my humble opinion, I find long filenames under ms-dos a nuissance; some problems may even arise using them for real ms-dos apps or games.

Check to see if video modes are set using default refresh rates. Some video drivers like nVIDIA's ones allow you to do this (I have a nVIDIA card). I don't know how it is for ATi's Catalyst.
