It is a problem for me... I want my games to run as intended with no extra effort. Testing so many GPUs is very time consuming as it is. Searching for some obscure hacks which might not even work properly is certainly not the right way for me.

Also I will use the same system for testing GTX 200, 400 series and HD 3000/4000/5000 series - all of which need win7 anyway to run at their full potential.

You still can run Steam under XP with some workarounds. But as you said, that could stop working any day, and then your results wouldn't be comparable between each other (XP vs. 7).
