Why though? 😄

Assuming this reply was for me, just because 🤣. I like to make up little challenges for myself to keep my computer knowledge on the up and up, and making different eras of hardware work together is challenging :-p

PS: For those who missed this funny old story (it's sorta a classic running gag, I think):
This will make you die inside (really) Voodoo 5 6000 "playdough"

Okay, that's all for now. I just couldn't resist, please forgive me. 😇

I know right? I really enjoyed getting that MFM controller to not only work on a 486, but also getting Windows 95 installed on a hard drive that's only 38MB formatted.

That works!

One day I'll actually get a video of it uploaded somewhere.

The remake of my second PC. It was bought in late October 1999.
Not all the parts are the same, but the motherboard, CPU, graphics card and sound card are identical. Even the case configuration is identical.
This build is supposed to have the same hardware of the original build, so no fancy extra hardware.
The original build had 64MB of ram. In late 1999 128MB was starting to be the norm for decent spec systems. 64MB was to short for Quake3 in 32bit. I choose 256MB for this build, because 128MB is not enough for some 2001 games.

CPU - Intel Pentium III 450MHz
Motherboard - Legend QDI BrillianX 1S
RAM - 256MB 133MHz SDR SDRAM @ 100MHz CL2-2-2
Graphics - Matrox G400 Single Head 16MB SDRAM Rev.A
Sound card - Creative Sound Blaster PCI 128 CT4700
HDD - Seagate 20GB IDE ATA100 5400rpm
CD-ROM - Creative 52x

It's not 90s generic mid-tower computer, if insides are not spaghetti.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

This is my K62 Rig

Motherboard -Asus P5A
CPu-K62 500mhz 100mhz FSB
Ram- 1x 256mb SDram
Optical drive - Yamaha CD-R 16x Scsi drive
and a Generic 32x speed CD-R IDE
Floppy- Samsung Floppy drive 1.44m
GPU- ATI 128 Rage pro All in wonder 32mb AGPx2
Sound card - SB AWE64 ISA
and a SB Live! 5.1 PCI
Adaptec Scsi adapter PCI
HDD- 30gb Maxtor 5400rpm IDE drive
Case- Cheiftec Full tower case
PSU - EVGA 450BR ATX PSU
Cooling - 3x 80mm Artic Case fans
and cpu is cooled with a Startec low profile cooler

I love this system but i really dislike the ALI chipset i've had to fight with it extensively to get it to run things properly and that scsi drive seems to conflict alot with certain games so it's actully unplugged as of right now to prevent those conflicts
and the Generic IDE cd drive is neat but i didnt like the way it was behaving so i actully have it changed out with a Liteon drive thats black so it messes with the looks but it's more consistant
part of me really wants a DVD drive in this system since that Rage card has a decent Mpeg2 decoder
this system also originally had 512mb for ram but it gave me issues in certain games (math blaster oddly enough )

Oh, it was an honor to be allowed to look - nice, clean build, good job!

That´s clearly and over statement, but thank you 😀
