2004 Pentium 4 retro setup / bedroom PC:

Specs:

CPU: Pentium 4 HT 3.0 Prescott
Mobo: GA-8SGXLFS
RAM: 2gb DDR1
GPU: Radeon 9800 PRO 128mb
HDD: 2x 40gb Seagate
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
Monitors: 2x 17" CRT, Samsung Samtron 76E and Philips 107E

I still need to get a longer S-Video and 3,5mm-RCA cables so I could connect it to that 28" Philips CRT TV. And a better CPU cooler... One that I'm currently using is from a Celeron 1.8GHz which was the original build in that case.

You have the same TV than me!!!
In my opinion, the better solution for a CRT TV is using Arcade VGA.
There are several versions. I have an old AGP version in a dedicated PC for emulators.

Your setup will be a very good emulstation!!! 😎

There is a 486SX-25 processor inside which is actually quite a good processor because it can play most of the CPU sensitive games without downclocking. The mobo is a bog-standard baby AT motherboard from late 1991. While the innards can't be seen I will post more pics tommorow hopefully. There is a acuMOS (pre Crrus acquisition) AVGA1 card in there right now, and a good quality Seasonic AT PSU. The CD drive is for decoration since the BIOS cannot detect CD drives. As of now it lacks an HDD or IDE controller card, since the only IDE controller card I have is ISA VLB. The turbo button on the case is redundant as of now.

HP XW6200 motherboard
2x Intel Xeon Nocona 3.4 GHz 1 MB L2 cache + stock coolers
4x Hyundai 2 GB DDR2-400
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD6450
Transcend 64 GB SSD
2x WD 250 GB HDD
Asus DVD-RW
Asus CD-RW
Card reader
NEC FDD
VIA Extra SATA + PATA controller
NEC USB 2.0 card
3x 80 mm fan red LED
3x Bequiet 80 mm fan
Seasonic 550W PSU
AOpen H700C case
Vista SP2 64-bits

The motherboard, which has ATX dimensions, doesn't just fit in a regular ATX case. In the original XW6200 case a couple bolts go through the CPU coolers and motherboard into the chassis. For this project I had to buy M3.5 nuts so I could fix the coolers on the motherboard and I had to fasten some tie wraps around the CPU coolers and the new chassis to make sure one corner of the motherboard would not bend due to the gravity on it. Luckily I could fasten the rest of the board with screws in their regular ATX holes. But that's not all. I also had to reuse the original case fans, which are now located at the bottom, because the CPU's don't run on full speed without them, to prevent them from overheating. Furthermore the power button, front USB and audio connections also had to be researched, but the original cable of the old case led me to the right pins 😀

Not really a retro rig though. Not saying it's bad (I like it!) just I don't think it fits the retro category.

The Dell Dimension XPS M200s just had it's annual dust-out. Although, there was very little to be done as you can see (photos before work began). A 10-minute clean of the fans sufficed.

Christmas is definitely that time of year when I get my chance to really play some games. It's been a re-visit of games from 1997 so a lot of Rendition, PowerVR and 3Dfx based games. That's why the Creative 3D Blaster PCI, Matrox m3D, Orchid Righteous 3D and Creative Sound Blaster AWE64 are all in the case together, and have been getting a good run.

Dude, that minitower case appears to be the exact same I have for my 486 in this topic I made like three minutes ago. Cheers! 😁

WARNING, don't use Alcohol to clean these damn things. As you can see, it wipes the logo right off.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
