Picked up a Dell Ultrascan P780 in great condition. Not looking to replace my IBM monitor, but its nice to have the option. Plugged her in and the image looks great; running at 1024x768 @ 85Hz.

Got a new toy for my main rig. My RTX 2080 Ti came in on 10-5-18. Did a little bypass and ran the card on air for a day. After installed EK Vector block and backplate for plumbing.

So... you've managed to put an RTX 2080 Ti into your IBM Aptiva 2144-M63? Cool. 😎

(Yes, this is sarcasm, I know he actually has it in his main rig. I'm not THAT stupid!)

RTX 2080 Ti installed in the custom Aptiva chassis... EK velocity CPU block installed for good measure given the limited space

All done and buttoned up on my main rig... I changed my CPU water block to the new ek velocity because i discovered some corrosion on the copper and water slightly leaking out. Not bad to match the water blocks either.

Current setup - RTX 2080 Ti ek vector + ek velocity

Your main rig is looking sick, but I still like the Aptiva! I ended up taking my voodoo2 out of my Aptiva and stuck in my voodoo1 recently.

Great pictures!

My Aptiva was one of the first - built in 1994 so Windows 3.1 and DOS. They're such solid machines - never had anything wrong with it. They got mediocre reviews at the time because they were rather expensive but they were very much aimed at people who were taking their first steps in the world of PCs - the Multimedia software and the menu made it all a lot easier. For games, it was tricky since the default settings in config.sys and autoexec.bat were unsuitable for a lot of games but a bootdisk sure fixed this problem easily.

Retro game fanatic.

Finally found some matching speakers, but still not the original. I cant figure out any info on the original unmarked speakers. Love how minty this thing is and how much nostalgia it gives me.

^^^^^^Latest on APTIVA^^^^^^ (above)

Last time I posted was when I got my rtx 2080 ti, so here is some of my latest activities.

I have built a dedicated 4k gaming pc 10700k for my lg c9 oled powered by a rtx 3080 via HDMI 2.1. I had to acquire a beta firmware from lg to solve some gsync issues, and everything is working perfect now for cyberpunk 2077!

-Round 1: PNY RTX 3080, my first 3080.

OP, I'm truly sorry for necroing your post, but since you are not afraid of tearing down your Aptiva 2144, would you be so kind to post pictures of your front panel's hinges (explanation here: IBM Aptiva 2144 front panel hinge) so I could model and print them to restore my baby?

That is a really nice setup. Everything looks like you just brought home from the store

Thx I can’t take any credit for how clean it is. It has never seen retro bright or cleaning agents. It’s too perfect not to share!
