Thanks. I need to ask something, as I want to be pretty correct with the ram too - old articles for this motherboard always test it with 256mb rdram sticks. When did 512mb rdram sticks first become available? Did they exist in 99 or did they make them later? Anyone remembers?

I think in 1999 where 128MB Rambus sticks common. You also should consider the OS - for a dual CPU system you need Windows NT4 or a Linux. Win2k would be the best, but it was released on 17. Feb. 2000. Windows 98 only supports single CPU Systems and 512MB RAM.

Epox 7KXA Slot A / Athlon 950MHz / Voodoo 5 5500 / PowerVR / 512 MB / AWE32 / SCSI - Windows 98SE

In 1999 I was using my HP Kayak XU workstation PC.
With Dual Slot-1 , 400mhz Pentium II CPU's
Micron 256mb ram
Seagate Cheetah SCSI hard drives
Quantum Fire ball hard drives
Analog devices sound chip
SCSI Controller
8mm tape backup ( DAT )
Matrox dual head video card. I don't remember if it was a G400 or G450 ?
Dual 20" Sony CRT Trinitron Displays.
HP 100mb Network card ( AMD Chip )
Windows NT 4.0 workstation

I later upgraded to Win-2000 workstation.

Pretty thing, though probably more of a '98 machine.

@PC-Engineer Win2K RTM in 15 dec 99, I say it counts. While regular users couldn't just buy RTM copies in stores, it still existed at that point in time 😀

...but, yeah, what rdram sticks were out there at that time, did 512mb sticks exist yet in '99 to go 4x 512, or did they come out later for P4, so should I just do 4x 256mb?

I think 256 would have been the top tier of consumer grade RAM in 1999. A lot of Pentium II and III pre-made systems shipped with 64 or 128 mb, so 512 was quite unreachable for most people.

That HP is one hell of an ugly workstation 🤣

It servered me well all through Windows-2000 pro era.
I later upgraded the CPU’s to Dual 500mhz Pentium III’s
And yes, they play games great.

Mine still work today. I have them stored in my garage.
