Hey guys !

I got myself a ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 motherboard and had an idea of making a test system where I can test my retro graphics cards AGP or PCI-E in one place.

So I put together a Q6600 ( looking for a QX6700 & QX6800 ), 2 Gb of 533 Mhz DDR 2 memory, Crucial BX500 480Gb SSD, Kolink Enclave 500W Gold MPS, Creative X-FI Xtreme Gamer sound card.
The system is running Windows XP SP3

As I have a Geforce 6800 Ultra AGP and a Radeon X850 XT PCI-E I wanted to try out my new system I put together.

Drivers are: Geforce 93.71, Radeon 10.2
(Please note however that the PCI-E slot only works on x4 and I hope there aren't any big bottlenecks because of that)
If someone has the time and a X850 XT PCI-E I would appreciate if you could do the same tests with X16 bandwidth to see what and if there would be any major differences.

Now for the benchmarks:

Nice board, has some annoying things but still one of the best options if you need a fast CPU for AGP.

anyway, if " test my retro graphics cards AGP or PCI-E" means testing cards you already know are good and you want to check performances etc. that's fine, on the other hand, if you mean testing untested cards, I'd avoid using the 4CoreDual-SATA2 because sometimes things can go very bad with untested hardware and this ASRock is somehow precious, would be unfortunate lose it for a faulty video card

is there you know for PCI too?

Can't really figure out, what that piece of hardware would do. Could you clarify?

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

I simply have a box of untested video cards to check and possibly repair. I can't risk a motherboard every time I plug a card into the BUS

Maybe it's a dumb question, but should you go this far with a test system?
Mine is just a motherboard on a mobo tray I drilled out of a banged up ATX case. At most I'm thinking about riveting a drive caddy from another banged up case to the underside and adding some legs.

Sorry maybe I went OT, I reconnected to the messages asking you if the video cards were known as good, and I wanted to report that the risk of inserting an unknown card into the system

Used to have one of these boards, which was formerly my in-law's business PC, and then I was planning to use as a spare machine, and then as an XP box..... It was always just a bit unstable. It had a Q6600 on it, and I'd be leery of going any higher than that just due to the stability issues.

VRM on this board is rather weak. I definitely wouldn't run C2Q here. 45nm Pentium or Core 2 Duo is much better. Runs very cool and also faster... unless you really need 4 cores.

So, it is a tester of some kind?
