If it helps, for comparison purposes, here are the results with a Core 2 Duo E8600 @ 4 GHz + ATI Radeon X850XT PCIe:

Quake 3 1024 x 768 x 32: 675.6 FPS

Looks good. With a similar setup (G31/ICH7, 3Ghz, Radeon X800 PCIe analog) I got about 515 IIRC with DEMO001.

Installed a Core 2 Duo E8600 and overclocked it to 4.80GHz on a ASUS P5Q3 motherboard, seems to be hitting the limits of this system, here are the results:

3DMark 99 Max: https://youtu.be/9IU-usKmRV4
3DMark 2001 SE: https://youtu.be/nWHYWmEyQzY

I think I will call this a day and move to other projects, maybe return to the old setup with Xeon X5260 @ 4.00GHz + 6800GT and install everything on a nice case and enjoy some retro gaming on it.

I would like to see other people doing similar stuff and maybe on newer platforms and see if everything works properly (USB 2.0, SATA drives, PCIe 2.0/3.0, etc...).

Cheers 👌

That is awesome! Did you use somekind of a custom driver for the motherboard? Didn't find Win9X drivers on manufacturer database at least..

Are any of you able to bench Quake 3 for me on an nVidia PCIe card on Windows 98 please? Thanks

98SE \ Core 2 Duo T7600@ 2.33 \ 7950GT 512 \ 82.69 Quake3 1024/768 580 FPS

That is quite low... With 98SE \ Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3Ghz \ 7800GTX \ 77.72 Quake3 1024/768 I get 825 FPS, all graphics options maxxed. And that's with DEMO001 which is more graphically intensive than FOUR.

82.69 isn't a viable driver for 98SE, in my opinion. It's not good enough for normal use. The 7800GTX should be considered the fastest 98SE card because it the last card to work with 77.72 (with the modified NVCORE.VXD for 512MB VRAM).

I bet if you cut your FSB in half and went single channel it would probably be in the ball park.
