I thought I should finally get around to posting about our rack builds.

Previously we had tower pc’s side by side and it was taking up too much floor space.

I had the idea of shoving it all into a rack and over the past two years have been slowly putting it all together.

Basically from the ground up they are dos pc, 9x pc, xp/7 pc and 10 pc.

If any interest I can go through the individual components of each.

Suffice to say we are only waiting on the release of the ossc pro to finish the dos and 9x pc’s.

The other two use hdmi to our processor and projector.

Hope this is of some interest 😀

This is awesome. I'm interested in how you fit the motherboards into the various [4U?] chassis. I'm aware of some rackmount chassis being compatible with ATX motherboards, and people then put consumer grade components inside. However, some of your systems are going to be older than (and not compatible with) ATX, right?

I’m glad there is some interest as I was hoping I wasn’t the only one thinking this was a good idea 🤪

For starters the rack is an 18ru with 600mm depth. I had to remove the rear door .

It has a power rail for all four of the pc’s and as long as I don’t try and turn on all four at once it shouldn’t trip. Lol

The two lower racks are iStar usa d-400-6-nd, with the two upper racks being iStar usa d-416.

The entire thing probably weighs a few hundred kilograms (300+ lbs).

Thankfully each is still atx or e-atx form factor.

Starting from the bottom rack:

Asus P5A
Pentium mmx 233
64mb
Asus v3000 (riva 128) 4mb agp
3dfx voodoo 2 in sli
Ssd with sata to ide adapter
Ide zip drive
Awe64
Mpu-401 clone
Connected to mt-32 and sc-55
D-link nic
5.25”
Hxc 3.5”
Jumbo tape drive
Plextor cd-rw
Antec 550w psu
Ms wireless k/b & mouse
Dos6.22 and wfw3.11

Will use for pre ‘92 games or thereabouts.

Have only fired it up a few times so far as waiting to get an ossc pro to combine vga, rca and toslink with hdmi output

Thanks for the question.

Keyboards and mice are all wireless using either ps/2 ports or usb 😀

Sound was a little more complicated.

Midi out from mpu-401 clones’s to either mt-32 or sc-55. Then back into soundcards for mixing.

Sound card stereo rca and optical outputs to ossc pro’s (eventually once available) and combined with vga to output hdmi (well that’s the hope)

Very nice! Wanted a rack for years but never got around to do it... one day! Once you go rack you never go back.

Consider posting more photos, such as how you handle cable management, I/O, video, keystones, etc.
