Actually, with the cards I selected every thing installs great with supplied driver included in WIn95b install CD.

IIRC, the AWE64 drivers are not installed properly by Win95 alone, at least with OSR2.1. It misidentifies the card as an AWE32 which results in some exclamation marks under Device Manager.

It's been a while since I reinstalled my Win95 system, but I think I had to use the driver CD of the AWE64 to get the card to function correctly.

I have a AWE32. Let me try it.

Isn't the point of this build that you want to only use software that comes on the Win95 CD? Thankfully that still gives you access to one of the best games of the era: Hover.

Does it run like a Cadillac?

Actually, This is the Best Win95 computer install I have ever had. In the past I always received the dreaded “Blue Screen” crash.
But this install works good with no problems. Its working very good.
All features appear to be working fine.

I loved Hover I lost tons of time playing that game when I was a child. Those were some seriously good times

I forgot about hover, prolly because machines I had 95 on were kinda low spec so it was sluggish, so didn't get into it. Will have to revisit sometime.

I think my first Win95 computer around 1995 was an AMD 5x86-133
But it did not run to good because it had a slow hard drive.

Yes, from what I remember. I purchased a motherboard/AMD 5x86-133 combo deal from Frys electronics in Silicon Valley.
They were offering this combo deal when Win95 came out.

It was not to expensive, under $100.

Knowing what games are complaining would be useful....

He's gonna need a USA STRONG card with that though, like an intel i740 or a Number Nine Imagine 128

A GWiz3Df 64 would be more period correct I feel. Or possibly a 3DfU2 32 maybe?

BIG upgrade:

I found a motherboard in my garage that I must have purchased long ago and forgot about it.
So I am going to put it in.
It’s an Intel 430tx motherboard.
Intel Space walker / shuttle.

This should fix the DIMM memory socket problem I was having with the other motherboard so I can use
64mb of RAM.

Finally, got around to swapping out this motherboard for the Intel Shuttle 569a.
I thought It would be easy but it is turning out to be a pain.
I am going to have to reinstall Win95 because the old install keeps crashing with the new motherboard.
But I have all the connections working.
And bios is recognizing all the hardware fine.
I had to change the wiring around on the DuPont connectors but it’s all working now.
And most importantly I am now using a 64mb DIMM and it works fine.
So this Win95 build will be loaded with all the specs I wanted from the beginning.
I also found a FAT Startech CPU cooler in my box of CPU fans so I used it.

Specs:
CPU - Pentium MMX 233
Cache - 512kb Pipeline burst
RAM - 64mb SDRAM DIMM
HD - Ultra DMA 33 support

This is going to be the best Win95 era computer yet.
I was able to get all 3 motherboards to work.

1) Acorp motherboard worked perfect. ( very easy to install )
2) FIC motherboard worked fine too but the DIMM slot was not working so I could only get it working with 32mb of SIMMs.
3) This Intel Shuttle 569a motherboard is the Best yet. I have everything working.

I think I will reinstall Win95 tomorrow just so I can have a clean install.
Now that I am pretty experienced in it. It took me a while to refresh my memory on all the
Updated and patches.
But it is pretty stable now. Rock Solid.
Best Win95 build yet.

Pheeewwww…..Finally finished this computer. Getting all the components to work with Win95 was a pain.
But this is pretty much what a Win95 computer looked like back in 1995/96/97
