I managed to get the Aureal Vortex 2 and the Audigy working together without any issues so far. Things I had to do to make it work:

  • Changed the Aureal Vortex 2 PCI slot until I got a free IRQ (IRQ 7, in my case)
  • Installed AU8830 9x 4.06.2015 driver since I'm using DirectX 8.1
  • Disabled Aureal Voretx 2 Sound Blaster Pro 2 Emulation
  • Disabled Audigy Gameport

I also installed the Turtle Beach Montego II Applications CD, but it's not required.

I think I'm finally done with this build. I have a Tualatin 1.4 GHz CPU, 512MB CL2 RAM, Voodoo 3 3000 PCI, GF4 Ti4200 AGP, Audigy and Aureal Vortex 2. I think I have all the bases covered for Win98 gaming. Going to play some games and stop tinkering for a while 😀

Honestly I think you have all the bases covered and them some!
Strong D3D support, check
Glide, Check
Eax, Check
A3d, Check

Only thing I can think of is MIDI, Still common in the 9x era, but you could cover this with the Audigy and soundfonts
