Very nice and tidy build. I had that Chieftec Dragon case on my main pc for over 10 years. Yeah, cable management was not that simple with those old cases. I found a photo from around 2007. My cables were not as neatly routed as yours 😁 I remember that the case frame was useful to hide and route atx power cable for the mainboard.

Thank you. Yes, i used that metal part were you put the cables, but on the back side ahaha

Agree with what everyone has said, nice list of parts and tidy build.
Not sure about you but I wouldn't be able to resist installing Win98 on it simply because it's possible.

Nice build , but dont you mind swap psu for something more solid as nvidia recommends 480watt psu.

Even if they did, it was when insanely inflated PSU power figures were common, so it didn't need that. My sources indicate 300W was reccommended and most thirsty 6800 Ultra uses 100W ... since there is ample on the rails of this one, it looks fine.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Great system based around excellent CPU and graphics card. 6800 series worked best with K8T800 chipset. And yes, those cases were not made for neat cable management. PSU is a bit anemic. I would go with more modern 450W Bronze/Silver/Gold, just for the peace of mind with those components.

Nah ... just install nGlide and call it a day 😉.

Thank for your replies. I was curious about the reception on this build, to see what it meant to other retro fellow enthusiasts. This was a dream build for me in mid 2004, when i had my A7N8X 2.0 Deluxe with Barton 2800+ and Asus 9600 XT 128MB.
Regarding this PSU, i have some wall and voltage readings in full load. The maximum load i saw on the wall was 198W. If i put 80% eficiency into acount, the full system consumption would be 158W under 1600x1200 gaming intensive load. And i guess 80% would be a good eficiency number for this PSU from 2008/2009. If i remove 20/25W for 3.3v and 5v rails, i would say the total 12V rail wattage being used, would be around 130/135W. The PSU has 2x 12v rails with 120+180W each. Even if i remove 30% on each rail , gives 84+ 126W each for a total of 210W. This figure is far from the 130/135W being used by the system on the 12v rails.
Regarding the voltages under load, they are 11.80v, 5v and 3.3v. I guess the 12v is not perfect, but within 1.7% margin. Both 5 and 3.3 are perfect. I inspected the interior of the PSU and it´s well built and very heavy which usually is a good thing on this 2008/2009 PSUs. I think it´s an FSP branded PSU.

Thank you. I guess this would be an ultimate W98 build, but to recent. I prefer have contemporary OS for the builds.

Yes, 939Dual-Sata2. Sadly capacitor plague took its life too early and back in those days I was not interested in keeping or fixing old hardware. I even had that AM2 cpu board for it 😀

What are the CPU temps?

Regarding PSU, back in the day (early 2000s) it was common for such PSUs to go out with magic smoke. In most cases it happened with socket A systems. Could be because of weird crossload (5V and 12V). I had Chieftec (Sirtec) 420W die on me in warranty with Athlon XP 1800 and Radeon 9700 Pro. Other components were fine, though 😀. I'd say Seasonic S12 platform was first to be trusted in mid 2000s. They were quiet and had quality caps (made in Japan) ... unlike some popular brands that had abysmal caps (Tagan), that would regularly go out with bang.

At 22ºC room temp, i saw 42ºC on HWinfo monitor, running p95 smallFFT test. The CPU is running stock with undervoltage from 1.5 to 1.45v.
I left an atached picture of the PSU interior.

Yesterday I changed a bulged capacitor in +5VSB rail in a similar old GPS-450AA. I liked its interior. Also I lubricated a fan with silicon oil

nice. look at how tidy that ribbon cable is.

i couldve sworn that Antec had a very similar full tower from the early 2000s.

P1: Packard Bell - 233 MMX, Voodoo1, 64 MB, ALS100+
P2-V2: Dell Dimension - 400 Mhz, Voodoo2, 256 MB
P!!! Custom: 1 Ghz, GeForce2 Pro/64MB, 384 MB

Can you do a benchmark for your PC, say 3DMark 2003 and 2005?

I've got a 9500GT DDR2 which is basically an 8600GT which performance wise is very similar to a 7600GT and I've wondered how it would compare to the 6800 series.

This is on a 939 Athlon x2 4200+ though.

Ryzen 3700X | 16GB 3600MHz RAM | AMD 6800XT | 2Tb NVME SSD | Windows 10
AMD DX2-80 | 16MB RAM | STB LIghtspeed 128 | AWE32 CT3910
I have a vacancy for a main Windows 98 PC

Here they are. Keep in mind these 91.47 drivers aren´t the best for the 6800 series on some of these 3DMark versions. I need to try older 8x.xx versions

I'm currently using 71.89 on my s754/6800 rig. No artefacting in DX9 games (FarCry) and nGlide works fine too. Haven't tested 8x.xx. (I forgot at what version FarCry and CS get broken textures. Was it 77.xx ?)
