I'm currently using 71.89 on my s754/6800 rig. No artefacting in DX9 games (FarCry) and nGlide works fine too. Haven't tested 8x.xx. (I forgot at what version FarCry and CS get broken textures. Was it 77.xx ?)

91.47 doenst have problems on FarCry, so i guess you need more recent drivers than 91.xx to have issues on it

Can you do a benchmark for your PC, say 3DMark 2003 and 2005?

I've got a 9500GT DDR2 which is basically an 8600GT which performance wise is very similar to a 7600GT and I've wondered how it would compare to the 6800 series.

This is on a 939 Athlon x2 4200+ though.

The 8600GT generally performed in the range between the 7800GT and 7900GS. Just looking at some reviews briefly, the 7800 GT is at least 10-20% faster than the 6800 Ultra across the board.

The 8000 series was a really huge step up. The $150 entry\mid level 8600GT in early 2007 provided most of (or more than) the performance of the $400-$500 high end cards from the previous couple generations.

The 9500GT with only DDR2 is probably not exactly on that level, but you're correct that it's very similar to the 8600GT. I would bet that it's still at least as fast as a 6800 Ultra in most games. Still, the 6800 Ultra is probably a little bit more backward compatible with older software.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Funny, I have quite same system in same case 😀

Case: Chieftec Dragon
PSU: FSP Group, don't remember wattage
CPU cooler: Zalman 7700Cu
Motherboard: Asus A8V rev.2.0 Deluxe - VIA K8T800 Pro
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (overclocked a lot)
MEM: 2GB
Graphics card: Sapphire Radeon 3850 AGP & Voodoo3 PCI (for DOS and Windows98SE)
Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2ZS & ESS Solo-1 (for DOS)
HDD: don't remember...

Triple-boots to DOS/Win98SE & Windows XP & Windows 10 (just for fun, needs to be quite old build because of AGP support)

I can play Crysis and DOS games with this. I think that VIA chipset is the last one with PCI-DMA -support so 100% SB PRO support in DOS with ESS SOLO-1 PCI sound card.

I didn't realize there was a driver for 3850 for Windows 98.

He meant that the Voodoo 3 was for DOS and Windows 98SE. The 3850 is used for XP and 10.

I did not see the quadruple boot. 😀

Have you tried Duke Nukem 3D in DOS or Unreal in Win98? I built a similar system (same motherboard, but with a Voodoo5 5500 PCI instead) and encountered graphical artifacts in those games. Duke Nukem 3D would display jumping horizontal lines on the right side of the screen, while Unreal had artifacts in the UI menu backgrounds and some texture issues in-game. Similar to what's mentioned in Issue with Voodoo 3 at 320x200

None of the Asus's BIOS options fixed the issue, so I ended up swapping to an Abit AV8 and setting "PCI1 Post Write" to "Disabled". Everything else, including the Solo, works just as well as it did on the Asus.

Don't have any problems with Voodoo3.
Have you tried to downclock CPU if that makes any difference? With setmul.exe I can set the multiplier to whatever I like.

Actually there's one problem which drives me nuts, Flatout2 don't work properly in Windows XP. It somehow loses vsync and runs really slow or fast and crashes. And I have tried EVERYTHING, nothing helps.
In Windows 10 it runs without problems... Maybe I'll take Windows 10 out and install Windows 7 instead.

Hi rcarkk I like this build and it also has very tidy cable management.
What is this plaque on the hard drive caddy that says AMD, 6800 etc? Is that a sticker you designed yourself?

My builds: 1995 VLB, 2003 Acrylic
SBEMU compatibility reports

I there! Thank you. I did the 3D model of the HDD caddy. A friend printed it for me. Regarding the stickers, i did the design, printing and cutting.

Hi! very nice build!
I recently did something very similar, but in a much worse case than yours. I love your chieftec dragon, will look out for one. 😀
My build is as follows:
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (San Diego)
ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe motherboard
4x 1GB Kingston DDR 400mhz
Evga GeForce 7900GTX 512MB
SB Audigy 2ZS Gold
1TB HDD and a noname DVD-RW drive
Windows XP Sp3

this gives me 21500 score in 3D Mark 03. I love everything about this build, but im going to OC the cpu to at least 2,60 ghz and replace Audigy2 with X-Fi Fatal1ty. Cheers!
btw, what's your most memorable or favorite game for this pc? 😀

Very cool! Nice photography too
I haven't seen cable-gami oragami in years. I have an Asus A8V around here somewhere I should dig out. I remember the K8T800 being a little buggy, any driver issues?
Very impressive to see an FX-53 wow! Those were really insane in the day. The WD raptor is a nice touch too!

nice. look at how tidy that ribbon cable is.

i couldve sworn that Antec had a very similar full tower from the early 2000s.

Antex, Ultra, Chieftec and some more off shoots all seem to have had slightly customized versions of the same cases for awhile. Saw a Ultra Wizard, super similar to OP's case but with a small window and the shiny Ultra branding 80 miles away locally NIB in metallic blue with UV blue fans.

How in the world did you do that with the IdE cables to get them looking so nice?! Is that one single cable with all those IDE connectors on it?

Its just one folded IDE cable that goes to the DVD-RW

Seems to be zip-ties rather than IDE connectors ..
