Hello team VOGONS! I have the following systems:

Lucky Star LS-486E motherboard, 256KB L2, new cr2032 CMOS battery
32MB EDO 60ns RAM (4x8)
ATi 3D Rage II PCI Video Card
Sound Blaster 16 - CT2970 ISA
1GB Western Digital Caviar HDD
8GB SD Memory Card > 3.5" 40 Pin IDE HDD Adapter Converter
33.6kbps USR Sportster PD17804PJ ISA Internal Modem
CD-ROM drive (32x) - Sony CDU701
1.44 floppy disk drive - Sony
300W AT Athena Power AP-AT30 PSU
INTeL Pro/100 PCI Nic
Vintage Tower case with LED display

Note: I just started working on this one. I plan on having a dual boot 32bit versions of XP/Win7
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93Ghz
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS9500AT
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2P (rev 1.3) Micro ATX
Memory: A-Tech 4GB DDR3 1066 MHz
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD5770 1GB (had this in storage, not sure if I'll keep it or go w/ another)
PSU: ?
Case: ?
Monitor: ?
Disk1: 750gb WD Caviar Black 64mb cache (XP's disk. Using hard disk as xp does not support trim)
Disk2: SSD. Have yet to get this (win7 disk)

System 3 > Gateway FX 6800-01e i7 920 @ 2.67Ghz http://x-bit.org/bbs-server/gateway-fx.jpg
Notes: Not sure if this one counts as a retro comp or not <g>, but i have it running 24/7 as my BBS server.
CPU: Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67Ghz
CPU Cooler: Intel stock cooler
Motherboard: Gateway TBGM01
Memory: 4GB DDR3
GPU: Radeon HD 7850
Monitor: HP w2207h
Disk1: Crucial M4 128GB SSD

That's no longer an issue. All modern SSDs have active trim done by the controller of the SSD itself.

That is not right. The drives have wear levelling and garbage collection routines but TRIM is a command issued by the OS. The controller is not aware which data is or isn't in use so it can't issue TRIM.
Without TRIM being issued from time to time write amplification still has a significant impact on the drive's life expectancy.

No worries. There's a lot of conflicting info about this on the web as well and it's true that (with sufficient overprovisioning) garbage collection and wear levelling will often reduce flash degradation significantly but TRIMing the drive from time to time is still absolutely recommended.

Thanks all! This is for the best anyway because I have two WD Black drives, one 1 TB and 1 750GB. I can just use something that's been in my inventory for years and i get to here the hdd clicky <g>.
