Is there any proper Covox emulation or a custom DosBox build that includes it? I've seen a thread with a few patches but nothing more.

I wonder whether Covox Lemmings really supports the Speech Thing. It doesn't drop Adlib support.

And also had an adlib.dat, but no covox. Still I've seen somebody on Quest Studios reporting on playing the game with Speech Thing supported, I'll try asking there and report here.
Perhaps I need the original disk, which is nowhere to find -.-
If anyone happens to have it...

Which game are you refering to? I'm not sure which of those were supposed to work with the game, I don't know when the latter was introduced, as the games are from 1991 and 1989 respectively, so if Sound Master was released later then that, I suppose not.
I assume that Sound Master isn't possible to emulate, or?

Okay, I've tried registering on the Quest Studios forums through the contact form and it seems nobody's answering. Does anyone know what's up with the admins?

I assume you are referring to this thread :

Also look here : Covox Sound Master / DMA issues.

Neither Lemmings Covox or Wolfenstein 3D supports the Covox Speech Thing. The Quest Studios and Vogons give support to the concept that Covox Lemmings supports the Covox Sound Master + or II, which are Adlib clones. There is scant evidence that any version of Lemmings or Oh No! More Lemmings or Lemmings Covox supported digital sound. LGR's video demonstrates that the Covox Speech Thing is not really hardware compatible with the Disney Sound Source (and Wolf3d works fine with a real Disney.)

Yet still Xenocide doesn't work with Covox here maybe because as Great Hierophant said, it's not hardware compatible.

Thanks Great Hierophant for the links, I gave them a read (and watch) ^^

I can confirm that Xenocide supports the Covox Sound Master, NOT the Covox Speech Thing. When the program starts up with the appropriate command line option, CO, it tries reading and writing to I/O 220, 240, 280 & 2C0.

Of the sound cards listed as with support in the REAME file, Ad Lib, C/MS, Roland, PC Speaker, Tandy and Covox, only the Sound Master can use all those I/O addresses. Oh, and the file CVX.DRV includes the text "Covox Music Driver." Only PC Speaker support for sound effects. The music and sound effect files are too small to contain the digitized instruments and sound effects for a Speech Thing.
