My application (the Academic American encyclopedia) needs to combine sounds comming directly from the CD-ROM drive (by the headphones inserted into 3.5 mm socket on its front panel) with the text of some its articles. Otherwise an application dependent error occurs. How to avoid it in DOSBox? Thank you.

There are two common ways to get a CD image.

  • - ISO, but this is only useful for pure single-track DATA CD's using the ISO9660 format.
    - CUE/BIN format. This format allows you to capture all tracks, data or redbook audio.

So in your case, just look for a CUE/BIN ripper program for the OS your running. Then in DOSBox select to mount the CUE file.

In the past, I used Nero format (.nrg) and a virtual CD-ROM drive like MagicISO for something like this.
The virtual recorder of Nero Burning ROM would simply create a multi-session image (.nrg),
which could be read by several freeware programs. Anyway, these are just my 2 cents to this topic.
Doing it the (now) more common kind of ways shouldn't hurt, either. 😀
