@Jo22 I wanted to reply to your comment at Re: Why can't I install Win95? but the thread in which this comment existed was a locked thread, so I'm putting my response here.

Why doesn't DosBox just store emulated file system structures in their own files like the emulated drive's master boot record could have its own file called MBR.dat, so that software that needed access to this stuff (software that expects more low-level drive access such as attempting to install OS's in DosBox) for correct operation, would be able to do so?

Because dosbox is for dos games as such it will only ever emulate what’s required for that.

If you want to run win95 in a dosbox type of environment then try DosBox X which is a fork of DosBox with extra features being emulated.
