VOGONS

I decided to install tekwar after having not played it in 20 years. Everything runs flawlessly except for the full motion video cut scenes. When these play the video skips and the sound is severely delayed. After a couple hours of trouble shooting I have not been able to find a practicle solution. If I manually limit the cycles to 7000, then the videos play perfect but the game itself crawls at 1-2 frames per second and is unplayable.

I read something about overwriting the DOS4GW with a DOS32A extender to give further control over dynamic cycles:

https://www.dosbox.com/comp_list.php?showID=894&letter=T

but I have no idea how to access the additional settings after the file is swapped.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Searching the forum for "Tekwar" should have turned up: Tekwar Cutscenes

Appreciate the reply but I've already found and tried the solution proposed and still have the same problem.

Not sure what the reference to the other build is though?

Of course, I wouldn't know that you'd already tried the fix mentioned in the other thread, seeing as you neglected to mention it in your initial comment.

To reiterate, configuring the game for SB Pro sound avoids the cutscene sound stuttering issue for me, and apparently for the person in the other thread as well. Dunno why it'd be different for you. Sound latency (aka "lag") would be a separate issue.

A number of users have reported issues with sound stutter in DOSBox 0.74 on Windows 7, so do try 0.74-2; and it also couldn't hurt to try a vanilla SVN build. Maybe experiment with blocksize and prebuffer settings, but because not ALL sound in the game is affected (only the movies) I wouldn't expect it to help.

What SVN build do you suggest? Where can I obtain it?

Is there a version of the latest 0.74-2 that I can just unzip the files of?

I really don't want to uninstall my current version that works perfect with all my other games on a wim that might make no difference for TekWar.

A recent SVN build can be found at https://yesterplay.net/dosbox-ece-en/ (https://dosboxece.yesterplay.net/DOSBox%20r4227.7z). Also, don't worry with uninstalling 0.74, 0.74-2 will install perfectly fine alongside 0.74.

Thanks.

I will give these a go when I got a chance and report back with how it turned out.
