This probably means little to everyone here except me, but I'm pleased!

I have one visible bug that I can see. It seems that the dosbox prompt cursor is somehow causing the file selection bar (in this program)to be invisible, and make files selected flash in the filemanager. If I load the player up under windows 2000 dos, it is a solid grey bar that doesn't flash.

I can't believe it works so perfectly otherwise - before I couldn't even get it to load, now with 0.62, it works great! I can play all these oldschool mods in the ultimate oldschool player. Hurray!

Thanks!

Hi,

only version 0.81c works perfect !
The newer ones implements some kind of pentium support and will crash.... 😲

Thank you fellows for reminding me of these two players.
I found was able to find both XTC-Play 0.81c and Cubic Player 1.7u on the net still 😀 and being very impressed with the players. (GUS plays better than SB it seems 🤣)
Much better than XMPlay, WinAMP, MODPlug, or etc have ever been. (except for IT playback 😜)

/Ieremiou

Here's the most awesome site for the Cubic Player 1.7u
http://files.danen.org/h/ap/music.shtml

I got XTC-Play 0.81c on some Music Demo site.
http://www.sanction.de/
(It's all the way at the bottom 😉)

And to finish this off Impluse Tracker 2.14 Patch #5 !!!

😀 Happy IT Listening 😜.

Not being a MOD aficionado myself, care to clarify how? I hear people talk about differences in MOD playback quality between players, and while I can tell the difference between MODplug (yay) and WinAmp (enh), what are the technical factors behind this?

Hi,

thats very simple...

Complex music-formats like XM ider IT are using many many different realtime sample effects like vibrato, volume slides, panning etc.
If a player only plays 80% of this effetcs and 50% out of this 80% are wrong played then the module sounds different as the musician wants it to sound.

IT was a new format and in some cases is still not fully emulated even in WinAMP or XMPlay.
The best I've heard has been with the Impulse Player. GUS with DOSBox emulation makes the sound come out much much purere. Version IT Player 2.4 Patch #5 is able to loade Compressed IT files so I'm happy.

Well, i have used modplug and winamp at the same time for some years, then changed to xmplay last year and i'm totally happy with it. But all your comments make me want to try this out, especially since i've recently discovered the goodness of gus sound 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 *is addicted to gus* 😜 😅
This also means Ian (xmplay programmer) would be able to improve xmplay a lot by running comparisions with dosbox (with some help from the xmplay community, that is) 😁 😁

uuumm.... xmplay is a closed source program, I'm not sure if it could be done.
BTW, I was trying to load nightrealm's summoning the underworld ( http://www.modarchive.com/artists/nightrealm/ great track, btw), but IT crashed every single time. I've tryed all 4 different cpu cores, with different memory sizes and cycles, to no avail.
Is this a IT problem? or is it a dosbox problem? I soooo wanted to try this one out with gus....
[edit]I don't know a lot about mods, but, i've just tested the sample it tune blue flame, both in dosbox/it and xmplay, and they sounded exactly the same to me, tough there is some hiccup once every 6 seconds or in IT for some reason. The quality of the sound output seemed to be the same too, but i should test with some other speakers just in case xP[/edit]

He said CUBIC PLAYER 🤣. Not XMPlay. (different players)

And yeah Cubic Player became open source a long time ago. Not exactly sure when to be honest.
I'm getting that .IT and will test it out over on my side to be sure.

Hmm, I think the size of the summoning .it might be too much for DOSBox or something. Not sure because it maxed out my CPU very time. This IT is quite huge. It's about 3 mbs (it's compressed in a .ZIP file if you have troubles loading it 😜)

HI,

he thinks that You can´t crab sources out of a open source software product and use it in closed source software !!!

btw....

Winjey 1.01 is the BEST player for XM/IT and oder module formats :
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/WinJey/download.shtml

It is the windows version of XTC-PLAY (same coder) and looks much like winamp. Sadly the player isn´t in development since years but still the best....

Yeah I looked at the old site with the WayBack Machine website. gosh you gotta love this thing

http://web.archive.org/web/20010202125900/htt … www.winjey.com/

Yeah plays good. Sounds quite good in WinJey.

Heh, Skavens' Cannon Angel sounds very odd in WinJey.
Only player that I've heard it right oddly was in Impulse Tracker. 🙄

The hiccup might be because you're doing somethings and that causes problems with DOSBox. 😜. Also if you want GUS make sure you load IT with "IT S7" to make it load the GUS card. 😁.
You can see all supported soundcards for IT by IT /?.
😜.

Interesting, very interesting. Looky see what I popped up. 😜
http://koti.mbnet.fi/~tympanic/ (Still seems to be a somewhat active group they do update from time to time 🤣)

http://koti.mbnet.fi/~tympanic/bugs.htm (This may be quite old but I'm not sure)

Even more interesting I don't think I've ever heard of MEDs

http://koti.mbnet.fi/~tympanic/rel_mem4.htm

Last resting place of the MED Plugin. If anybody knows how to get this to work in XMPlay. (I tried it it says doesn't support plugins that have their own output?) It would be really cool. 😀 Link below provides the source.
