hi vog's
i am attempting to play the KQ series games using 'dosbox.' (specifically kq5) i have 2 of the games both windows 'CD's the standalone kq5 edition, and the 2 disc kings quest collector edition.
thus far, i have been able to:
1. enable the cd via 'intro cd.'
2. select the cd drive: (my physical drive, not virtual
3. start the 'install.exe.'
4. the install program populates, but will not 'recognize' a drive to install to (want 'c :' or e: usb flash) (see pic details)
if there's any 'dosbox,' guru's, id appreciate assistance/feedback. I do know i can purchase 'gog,' inexpensively, want to apply dosbox first.
thank you ,

Well, did you mount a directory as the C-drive in DOSBox? Looks like no, you did not...

Make a folder you want to use as the C-drive and then:
mount c "x:\some\drive\some\path\"

hi vog's
t.y. zirkoni for the response, i do ask for some clarification, as my dos skills have diminished over the years. ( havent used it in like 30 years) i will get it, if any person is willing to resoponse to serveral questions:
1. re: make folder, ok so my thoughts are to create a folder in the c: root of my pc. yes?
2. re: mount, i do not know the 'syntex's any longer, and not able to 'navigate in dosbox' for the list of them. ( yeah, sure i mounted the 'd' drive, but not recalling that dos box synex to do it. please tell me.
3. re: 'x' i definitely do not understand that mount 'c' 'x:' ( yes i realize since it has the : in the synex it is a directory drive, but what does the 'x' represent?
4. re: the '\ ' what do those \some\drive\some\ path .....mean ( so what is 'some ' as well as the others supposed to be?)
so please if any vog would be so kind to explain, i will understand it better, and have sucess to play the great adventure game once again.

Oh dear. That was just an example folder path. Perhaps you would reconsider just getting the GOG version? Seriously.

hi and t.y. for the response. but no, no need go for the 'gog,' just like i said 'further exp...' now i know that its a 'ex path,' great, so....as for me in an explanation path....i would say... c-x\xxx\xxx\xxx.. ( = path example)
that would be an improvement..

You managed to mount the game CD in DOSBox. The same way you also have to tell DOSBox which location to use as the hard disk drive so you can install the game from the CD to the hard disk (or SSD).

You said you want 'c :' or e: usb flash. So make a folder, for example: C:\Games\DOSBox
then mount that same folder in DOSBox as the C-drive:
mount c "C:\Games\DOSBox"

mount c "C:\Games\DOSBox"

Within DOSBox, this is seen as "C:"
Also, if you've difficulties to enter a back slash ("\"), just use the normal slash in its place ("/")

And, ScummVM also supports KQ5, so no need to fiddle around with DOSBox and its commands. 😉

hi vog's
thank you zirkoni for the assistance. i am progessing for the completion most likely. i attempted following the 'scripting,' and was able to accomplish the 'mounting of both 'c and d.' (see pics) however, as the second post for assistance i submitted, showing with the jpeg pic i had kq5 available, i cannot reproduce that stage. so please take a look at the 'attached pics,' to let me know where im failed.
(p.s. if anyone cares to post some feedback , great, i just don's want to exasperate zirkoni)
(p.s.s. this request is still requested despite some may be apprehensive for the 'll_user oldiebe' post.
