Got my mind on putting a Pentium Dual Core (E6800) build into this case since I have recently picked up a Asrock 4Coredual-sata2 Rev 2.0 board recently and I need a Pentium level machine for AGP GPU testing since the P3 cant push enough pixels and a Core2Quad is overkill for AGP.

I will have to locate some HDD thumb screws for it since the seller doesnt have them, any suggestions for replacements ? might actually be easier to just cable tie a SDD in there but a HDD for storage would be nice.

Well, you got it all planned out perfectly. Can't really say anything beside "post pics when done".
AGP with C2D is old-tech-meets-new kind of vibe to me. 😀

I thought of throwing a P4 661 in there but the seller threw in the E6800 2gb of ram and a 6800 so it’ll all just go in the box as a test rig since it supports AGP and PCIe.

Well maybe, but not a complete, as i want AGP slot as well, where i can test whatever i want...
Any of these boards is working scrap (as i like to call this "class" of parts same to celerons, semprons, duron, MX and LE cards and other crap) and is great to be used as test subject to test new parts.. I specially like the small 462 ECS as it have AGP universal slot, so i can test there from S3 Tro, nVIDIA Riva 128 up to Radeon x1950 and Radeon HD 3850... I have same model duplicated, but the other board have soldered CPU some crap Athlon 1600 MHz lmao...

I have ofc some parts that i dont find any value in them, as test parts, PCI, AGP cards, SIMM, SDram, DDR400, celerons, pentiums, Athlons and others, as i dont like to use for tests some good stuff liek ABIT boards, AOpen and other high end stuff...

download/file.php?id=134205&mode=view
This board looks rather nice though.
The soldering spots for ISA are somewhat odd for that board. It's not 440BX and googling b215g4 (it's on one of the stickers, I can't make out the print at the bottom left) seemed to lead me to it being a Fujitsu board, which is rather good actually.

I have a Fujitsu board with i815 chipset and ISA, which must be using a bridge chip. Never tested out the ISA but I did build a rig around it which ended up being lend to a friend who's PC had to be send back for repairs so he could at least use the internet 😜
Fujitsu boards always seemed good quality, particularly boards of this vintage.

EDIT: Fun fact: That Fujitsu-Siemens board, I don't remember where I got it from but I used a FS WinXP install CDROM (which was for an FS Athlon 3200+ PC so it's an OEM WinXP install medium) which I used to install Windows XP and it never had to be activated 😋

Battery is beyond dead I presume?
If I'm not wrong, you have to leave it 24 hrs connected to power to see if battery recovers are is really just a dumpster thing.
Mine had a red led that stayed so, but if it turns to orange you may get some juice in it.

Beautiful machine 😉

Purchased for a few dollars at a local thrift store. I don't need another mediocre keyboard, but this one is in new / never used condition and has the 5-pin AT connector. "Micro innovations" brand.

Communazi market 2022 April.
This month it was more commu than nazi. An insane amount of Lenin portraits and busts while only 2 Hitler. It was also smaller than usual.

I didn't find too many things to buy this month. 3×512MB flash drives and a 3.5" floppy carrier box (I already had one for 5.25"). It's difficult to find these old sub-2GB flash drives and some old systems are picky about them. All 3 works and un-wiped with some office data on them. Except one. It has a "dosgames" folder. Didn't check what are those yet.

You got me wondering - where are those pictures from? Those sights seem quite familiar to some bazaars I've been attending here in Romania.
(mainly the one in my city, Bacau, and another one that's in Arad, that one being the city where I attend university)

That dog is on a leash, alive but without a tag.
So far I can exclude Germany.

While it's not a closely kept secret, meaning I don't mind if someone finds out from my posts, I have no intentions revealing it beyond being a former eastern bloc country.

Won a C2D E8400 for 2,50€ including shipping. Already have one, but I need it for my DDR2 test board.
This one will be used for my "data fortress".

Basis for this rig will be a P35 board with 8 SATA connectors.
I'll add 4GB of high quality 800MHz DDR2. Don't want to risk data corruption.
Cooler will be a small Arctic Cooling tower cooler. Should be enough to handle a C2D.
GPU will be a Radeon HD3450. It's the cheapest I have which has HDMI, DVI and VGA. So I can use it with any spare screen which isn't in use for something else.
System HDD will be 80GB Seagate SATA. I plan to upgrade to a SSD later, but for now I need my SSDs for other systems.
The core of the build will be a 4x750GB RAID 1 array. These will hold backups of my most important data. Of course they will be encrypted.
I still need a SATA docking bay and IDE docking bay for data transfer. I don't want that rig anywhere near the internet for obvious reasons.
Will also add a USB3 controller card which I have laying around. Might add a SCSI/SAS controller later on.
PSU will be a modular BeQuiet, so I can easily unplug the RAID array. I intend to use this rig to run diagnostics on newly purchased drives as well.

Plugging used drives into it is a bigger risk than having it connect to the internet IMO... unless you unplug all your data first before having run sufficient scans to determine drive isn't full of virii.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

That's the plan. Unplug all the HDDs, then wipe the disk and run the diagnostics like SeaTools.

bought some brand new floppies. Very happy that I now have 30 unbranded black floppies. Very nice to "recreate" kind of official-looking Ms-Dos or Windows 3.x installation disks.

Where did you get them from? I've been looking for unbranded floppies as well (especially blue ones) for similar purposes.

The only type of virus I'm concerned about are firmware viruses flashed right into the controller. Since I'm not a Windows user (except for retro stuff) so viruses written for Windows aren't a threat, especially if it's a dedicated 'safe to risk' PC, not my daily driver. If it's indeed infected, scanning and formatting solves the problem.

Also, it matters where that drive comes from. Infected bait USB attacks are targeted. It's unlikely they'd come from a flea market where just about anyone can buy them for just about any purpose or no one at all. I wouldn't try a flash drive from any source.

I think we can exclude Ukraine then ...I doubt you would be attending any swap meets right now if there, tho .. one could always use a used Russian tank or three and I hear that the Russian soldiers are willing to swap tanks for hot meals.

From eBay in Europe. First time I see some. 24$ for 50 floppies. But mainly bought for these nonames 😀
And today, I couldn't resist buying another pack of brand new diskettes...... 300 for 42$ ( all branded BASF )
Should receive them next week

not really, I mean Former Eastern Bloc covers a lot of countries, it would be impossible to find the right one, but its not wrong to have a little fun with it without going too far right ?
