Won this Genesis Model 2 with the Sega CD Model 2, controllers, RF cable (going to use a custom cable in the future once I order parts), and 2 power bricks: 1 for the CD Model 2 and 1 for the Genesis Model 2.

I love my Model 1 HD. Looks so sharp on my PVMs and once I make a cable for the Model 2 (going to solder adjacent to the wiring that my Model 1 cable is using), it'll look so good. Good thing I added the 3.5mm jack to the multi-console A/V switch board I fabricated a long time ago.

I received the Asus P4S800-MX. It looks to be in great condition and has Rubycon and Matsushita caps, so likely a a good sign.

However, I don't have any socket 478 compatible coolers . Doh!!! The Deepcool Gammaxx and Coolermaster Hyper 212 units I do have are meant for socket 775 or newer and adapting one of those does not seem feasible using only the included mounting hardware. Consequently, I ordered an underpowered Startech FAN478 and an Asus branded "19437-pb" (that's what the auction calls it) with 2 heatpipes .

Getting a socket 775 board with DDMA support was practically impossible (there does exist at least one Asrock model, but that is practically unobtainium), so I had to fallback on a socket 478 board. Oh what joy!

I hope that that that the SIS 963L provided orts on the motherboard are LBA48 enabled by the BIOS and that they "like" JMicron IDE to SATA adapters. I will find out soon enough .

The ALS4000 works extremely well in DDMA mode (legacy DMA) on the P4S800-MX . I did not bother with OPL3 support and muted it as it is reputedly and observably quite noisy (I plan to do some further testing with a YM724 or YMF744 based card for that), but the PCM SB16 compatibility is really good (IMHO): Quake, Doom, Open Cubic Player, Jazz Jackrabbit, Dual MOD Player (DMP) 4.0 all work with said SB16 compatibility .

I still need to test with my incoming Trident 4DWAVE-NX and some CMI8738 based cards to gauge compatibility AND noise. Only one of my 3 ALS4000 cards seems to be potentially acceptable on the noise front as it is (no crappy AMP implementation). Of the 2 others, both of which have un-bypassable (or at leat not trivially) AMPs, one sounds like extreme garbage and the other is almost acceptable (IMHO) and may be be usable once I solder in jumper blocks (instead of the soldered bridges) in order to be able to disable the onboard AMP .

I will hold off in further testing until I get better CPU cooling as some of the nearby caps are getting uncomfortably warm after a few minutes .

the latest drivers for ALS4000 were decent but a bit late for the model whom suffered all sorts of issues. I think that chip and some more were bought out but others in the end I think its worth seeing windows 7 driver might be realtek like some early 1gb LAn chips bought out and sold as realtek. Driverpacks has the latest drivers for it beyond microsoft generics. was the very first new soundcard purchased separately by me back in late 90's it was bundled with many generic non oem offerings very cheap alternative but not as good as it were when windows 2000 and xp support came out.

The ALS4000 is an interesting design. It is quite full featured on the DOS legacy side, but definitely meant as a low cost solution (single chip, no AC97, I2S or S/PDIF capability), so practically all designs around it are built to a (low) cost, which is unfortunate. This probably explains the lack of effort for newer drivers as most people buying this for DOS and Win 9x wouldn't really care and people going to NT, 2K, XP and newer would probably be happy with onboard audio or would prefer a higher audio quality solution.

I don't plan on going beyond Windows 98SE, so I should be fine .

Just received this untested GA-5AX 5.2 with the Revision H Chipset. So far it's working fine and hardly can wait to benchmark it.
Luckily it came with a k6-2+ 500 installed in it which I was not aware of.

Not that retro, but I picked up this beastly Radeon HD 5970 during a flea market today for the lousy price of 12.50 euro's! Also bought a WD 1 TB HDD for 3 euro's, so that is nice as well.

Odd-looking passive SECC2 heatsink, came with a 600/100 coppermine.

What kind of a machine is this from as it (heatsink) doesn't quite fit slot1 with the standard retention mechanism on? There are no notches on the sides.

Actually, both of my N64s already have expansion paks installed, but I still can't resist buying these whenever they pop up at yard sales. They're usually buried in boxes of old controllers and games, but this one was still in its original packaging!

Wasn't there some slotted Xeon processors around the same time?

I just got this Radeon 7000 PCI (64MB DDR) for $16 US shipped to test with Windows 95 specifically. So far, I'm happy with the purchase. ATI's Catalyst 2.3 drivers work properly with this card for both DirectX and OpenGL in Windows 95. The driver also doesn't cause the USER32.DLL error that later ATI drivers have (from calling Windows 98 functions).

I wrote up a bit more about my experience in the Radeon 7000 on Windows 95 thread (Re: Need ATI Radeon 7000 driver for Windows 95 OSR 2.5).

Indeed there was they were the slot 2 Xeon's. They were bigger than the slot 1 P2/P3 cartridges.

Okay, so probably jumpered to mono only at the moment or doesn't autoswitch at all.

I've got no further clues there's several massive collections like TULARC at Stason.org and TH99 that have thousands of boards, but this ain't in it. Was possibly made for one system and not sold separately, or never got out into world markets. Does it have an FCC number on the back or any further ID back there?

You are right. I found the "only" place on internet which has the two pages manual in pdf, with jumpers information.
Definetively it is jumpered for mono. I will try CGA this coming monday. I will let you know what happened.

I thought Medusa was supposed to be beautiful? Wasn't the story that it was difficult to not look at her but then if she looked at you in return, you were turned to stone?

Good question. I do believe that is the correct understanding - huge fan of Clash of the Titans!

Thank you, I am quite unfamiliar with Canopus' products line. I was distressed by my lack of knowledge, but you've given me a quantum of solace (pun intended).

These heatsinks are meant for 1st generation SECC retention brackets:
