Spare optical drives are always handy to have, I have a small pile of them myself.

So... uh.

I found something a couple days ago...

😮😨😩😖

It was more than I normally spend on things like this, but I couldn't pass it up, being the only one I have ever seen for sale.

...and... then I found something else right after that...

Still in shock.

One Paradise Tasmania 3D to tinker with and one sealed for the collection within about 15 minutes of each other. 🥴😵🥴😵

Expect a thread once I receive these. There isn't much coverage of them here as far as I can tell.

$30 for a sealed card of this age is a good deal.

About a month ago I ran across some Diamond Speedstar ISA board, don't know the exact model, new in open box. Bidding started at $30 or maybe a penny less and only one winning bid. I would have bid on it but it was too late. The listing title wasn't conducive to being found in searches.

I would definitely play this tank game. That's the exact graphics style I love (untextured, or in this case - barely textured - low poly 3D vector graphics). Anybody knows it's name?

is it this one?

The Youtube video I linked to actually said what the games were and had a link in the description to the VOGONS thread that talks about those two games. I guess I could have mentioned them in my post, but I thought between the YT link and the box picture I uploaded with the games advertised on it that was sufficient. 😀

3D Accelerated Games List (Proprietary APIs - No 3DFX/Direct3D)

On that note... wow, things are looking pretty grim for this card. I had somehow missed that Tasmania3D versions of the three other games that were advertised to use it have never been located anywhere. So, the two games that come in the retail box are the *only* games known to utilize the card. 😮

And just to be clear, those games are FX Fighter and Tank Commander. I believe both are exclusively accelerated by the Paradise 3D.

EDIT: OH MY... 🤣 🤣

"Shipping with Tasmania 3D are two of the most popular PC games available today: FX Fighter, with its fluid motions and fast pace, and Tank Commander, which combines fast-paced arcade game play with strategic planning. In addition, for a limited time, Tasmania 3D customers can register with Philips to receive three more exciting games from Mindscape: SU-27 Flanker, CyberSpeed and Air Power. "

https://web.archive.org/web/20140912050505/ht … w...-a018176320

🤣 🤣

So many HUGE lies in that press release... wow! Zero Direct3D support, no functional API support of any kind... A company would be completely destroyed for something like this these days.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Diamond Stealth 64 DRAM and Quantum ISA-200S are in working condition, the two FDDs and the CPU are still untested, and of course MB is destroyed by the battery.
The funny part is when I observed the MB near the window, a tramp passed by on the street with a big old PC. A minute later we had a deal for 1 euro, gave him 2.
The PC is working, with MS8308ep 266 MB, 1.2GHz Duron, lot of RAM and 60GB HDD. The case is not so bad and big enough to fit P4 MB and FX 5900 XT with huge passive cooler,
an old project that sits in carton box because it needs wider case.

Remarkable, an AMR slot that has something in it!

I like both of those cases.😃 Splendid deal too!👍
The 5.25" FDD with the broken lever reminds me of the Colani designs that were popular here.
What's the air intake situation on the ATX case? The front looks like it will breathe well.

That's incredible. There haven't been any known cards for sale since I got mine back in 2014, then we get TWO Tasmanias at almost the same time!

From my knowledge, you are now own the fourth and fifth cards that are known to be in hands of collectors, and the only sealed one.

Saw some DDR 500 PC4000 sticks pop up on evilbay and grabbed them, they were priced reasonably well actually expected them to be much higher considering rarity.

Pair of Corsair sticks, one being the 512Mb DDR 500 and the other will be heading to the scrap DDR storage box where all 512Mb DDR 400 sticks go. (It being CL2 means it ll live longer than the other trash DDR400 I have)

Also grabbed this PCI X-FI Fatality card with its drive bay box as it was also listed for a lot less than I normally see them.

Today I got this ASUS K8N-E Socket 754 motherboard with I/O Shield. I plan to use it with a AMD Sempron 3000+. Opinion?

Never seen a K6 CPU using the PR2 numbering and having a look on Google it seems to suggest this is one of the first variants of the K6, 2.9v also leads to me believe this is one of the 350nm models. I have one of the later 250nm versions I wonder how this older model compares, not sure I would use this one tho as it appears to be NOS and still unused/sealed. Still there is something special about being the first person to power up a new CPU and see it roar into life.

Wikipedia has a little info on this and its one of the 350nm versions, bet it runs hot as a furnace.

Yamaha Sound Edge SW20-PC ?

Speaking of odd Midi stuff, just ran into a boxed LynxONE . .has two buffered midi ports, its got a massive Altera IC on it .. not entirely sure what its for but I'm assuming its a Midi mixer card. Two are 24 bit analog two are 24bit/96kHz digital, never seen such a beast before.

https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/lynx-stu … nology-lynx-one

So this thing really is a beast, I don't have a use for it but damn if it aint impressive for its age.

If only I was into Midi . .which im not, that rabbit hole is too dark and deep and filled with weird mutant rabbits.

I always associate Altera with FPGAs, but they may have produced other chips (i use a past tense because Altera is now part of Intel).

Yeah, my bad as a forum fail. Thought I had clicked on latest post and ended up responding to old post. Yeah definitely in the rabbit hole which is why I really want one. OPL4 is an odd beast and its one of the few pieces I do not have.

its an Altera Flex FPGA ....jesus the damn card can be programmed. I wonder if its worth grabbing just because of that FPGA on it.
