Bought some new old stuff too.

-1x SDRAM 128MB PC133 CL 222 + 2x SDRAM 128MB PC133 CL 333
-Sound Blaster 16 and 32 with Vibra Pro: CT3600 with 8MB. and CT2940.
Both without the genuine OPL-3L, but I may do a solder experiment.
-CPU Pentium II, Slot-1, SL2S7 Philippines, Multiplier Locked...
-CPU IBM/Cyrix 6x86MX PR200, 2.0x 75MHz, 2,9V, Socket 7
-Graphics adapter S3 Virge/DX 4MB PCI, "EON"
-Computer case 6030MD with unknown content for 10 Euro.
Turned out to be a Pentium 4 Northwood 2,8GHz on an Asrock PE Pro SiS chipset Mobo. 2x 1GB DDR 333.
No interest in the P-4, but I like the case, it is the third of that type I own. 😀

Incoming:
- Intel SR440BX Mainboard with SDRAM and Pentium II 400.
- SD-Card to IDE adapter, that plugs right into the motherboard.

--> ISA Soundcard Overview // Doom MBF 2.04 // SetMul

Actually I ran out of ideas of what to buy and build... I have created so far three PCs which can cover every game released from 1980 - 1999 to be played in the way it was designed...

Any suggestions?

PC#1: K6-III+ 400 | 512MB | Geforce4 | Voodoo1 | SB Live | AWE64 | GUS PNP Pro
PC#2: 486DX2-66 | 64MB | Riva128 | AWE64 | GUS PNP | PAS16
PC#3: 386DX-40 | 32MB | CL-GD5434 | SB Pro | GUS MAX | PAS16

Availability might be a bit of an issue on that side of the world, but how about some sort of Tandy 1000 variant? There are a fair number of games for which Tandy is the ideal PC-based platform, as far as sound and/or graphics are concerned.

Here's an incomplete list of some of the more well-known of these:

King's Quest
King's Quest II
King's Quest III
King's Quest IV (AGI)
The Black Cauldron
Donald Duck's Playground
Space Quest I
Space Quest II
Leisure Suit Larry (AGI)
Mixed-Up Mother Goose
Police Quest (AGI)
Gold Rush!
Manhunter 1
Manhunter 2
Kings of the Beach
Skate or Die!
Future Wars: Sentinel Worlds
OutRun
Wings of Fury
Skyfox II
Maniac Mansion (original and enhanced)
Zak McKracken (original and enhanced)

I was also a little confused. The Pentium 4 in the picture has the parts dated 2001 (geforce), 2002 (cpu), 2003 (mobo) and 2004 (dvd). 2 GB RAM sounds like it is from a later date, but I cannot find the marking.
I bought the exact same computer case new in 2002/2003 with an Athlon XP 2400+. And got a slightly slower northwood CPU for the office new in 2004.

are there special tandy versions of these games? or are they technically identical with the versions I could run on my 386?

(still aiming for your 8bit PAS though 😁)

why ISA and no VLB/PCI card?

I got a VLB SCSI adapter in a box recently that looks very similar to that one only the colored bar on the end of the box is blue instead of red.

Bought about some minutes ago:

$%28KGrHqZHJCoE8fZN66,iBPPv4qn%28JQ~~60_12.JPG

And

The hardly RARE to find:

$%28KGrHqNHJCME8f,NWH+CBPPv-tWO7!~~60_12.JPG

Iam very glad with both..

The roland LAPC-I iam going to use with the 80286 build.

The MCB-1 iam going to use with my 80386 system to connecting an CM-300 on..

Today i received both.. But the taxes warent fun at all.. Had to pay 64 euro for customer fees to import it to my country.. But okay its worth its at least.. This was also my last LAPC-I card..
Iam only going to see if i could find an MCB-1 for my second card.. So then i both completed..

I have though about that 80386 / 80486 build issue.. But i think that ill keep my 80386 system.. And think build a next system with a 80486 processor.. And then only putting the Midi-man in it with a MT-32 connected..

So one LAPC-I iam going to use for my 80286 build.. The second one iam going to use in the 80386 build.. Why an 80486?? Because then i dont have to use dos on the windows 95 pentium computer.. And can hold dos seperate to the 80486 system..

Its a decision if you want to use an IDE or SCSI harddisk in you system..
But on my opinion.. 1 or 2GB are a lot faster options then the older 540MB or older ones.. I dont going to use an 800MB harddisk, because its still needs a ENHANCED controller to use the harddisk.

But i have already one SIIG ENHANCED IDE card in my 386 SYSTEM..
With a 1,7GB IDE it flys like hell.. So i really dont need to mess with expensiver SCSI harddisks because price wise it isnt worth it..

For older systems like XT its really hard to find an IDE harddisk..
Yes i could mess with that self build hobby controller.. But then again i need to look for the components.. My only good resources are ebay.. So to buy all of the components on ebay would like very expensive..
If you want a bigger harddisk in XT systems.. I only can recommend SCSI..
Yes the drives are little bit expensive, but going for an MFM of RLL disk isnt really worth.. Most of those drives goes dead because they are stored parked.. Or there arent lubricate at the bearings of the spindle motor so the drive havent much time to survive, and after some time they are dead too.. And the main problem of MFM, they are fucking expensive like 191 dollars. And the sizes of the drives are to little to have a good listing of games on it.. The only why for really older computers like XT and 80286 i only could recommend SCSI.. For faster systems, only use cheaper IDE!

Picked up some more goodies...

AWE64 Value new in sealed box
0XTHb.jpg

Stoked to track this down but I'm still looking for an AWE64 GOLD in box to round off my collection.

And a Covox Sound Master in box 😀

Pretty uncommon, this boasts Adlib/sound blaster as well as Covox Speech Thing compatibility. It even includes a 9 pin MIDI cable and a set of Covox branded headphones/mic 😀

Here is a closeup of the flyer

Haven't tried the voice command software yet- will be interesting to see how well it works! First thing tyhat comes to mind is playing X-Wing or Tie Fighter and binding voice commands to 'all power to shields', 'all power to weapons' etc...

If you are squeamish, don't prod the beach rubble.

No, you need another video card because the PCX and PCX2 don't have a VGA out.
