Pentium 4s and SDRAM rarely mixed well regardless of OS.

Yup. I had the chance to play with an early RDRAM P4 and I have to say it performs much better than it's SDRAM equipped counterpart, even if the CPU is slower (1.5 GHz willamette socket 423 D850 chipset RDRAM rig vs early socket 478 1.8 GHz willamette i845 SDRAM).

This Diamond SpeedStar 24X 1MB ISA gfx card came with my NEC Ready 9616. Seems out of place for a Socket 5 system.

This arrived today. If I had to pick one AGP card for retro gaming, it would be the Geforce 4 Ti4600. (Cheating a little because I would use a Voodoo 3 PCI in tandem.) Just a beautiful card running 45.23 drivers.

Paid $6.50 shipped.

I once bought Asus 4600Ti for 1€ and other items (including 3.5" HDD) from one German seller. It was all put loose in a box with only some not even crumpled paper added inside. 4600ti suffered some damage as some SMD components got broken off and the card didn't work. I got refunded 1€. I'm still mad about bad packaging 🙁

Requests are also possible... /msg kixs

I think I have this card in one of my FreeGeek picks. The fan doesn't work on it though. I wonder how hard it is to find a replacement.

I haven't installed it to test functionality yet. Right now I'm testing the AWE64 Value for functionality - in fact, just finished and satisfied it's working well.

Let me know how your GF4 works out. 😀

Got a new motherboard for my ThinkPad 600 - this one is from a 600E - after the old one blew up. I've since had to order a replacement LED board as well because they're keyed the other way around - damnit IBM! (Never noticed it on the 600Es I pulled for parts, and most other things go across easily, bar the CPU card, which is the newer type and I had one of those).

Hey, that would give you the best of both worlds for games of that era.

Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....

Yes, when I can, I pair a V3 PCI with a Geforce AGP in all my 98SE boxes. Use BIOS to choose.

For my SS7 system, I use a GF 2 MX + V3.
For my P3 BX system, I use a GF 4 Ti4600 + V3.
For my Athlon XP system, I use a GF FX 5950 Ultra + V3 (V5 PCI if I could get one at a reasonable price).

Few more pieces bought at local shop, all for $15 total. Quite a good deal.

A64 3200+ socket 754, the oldest "regular" A64... launched at september 2003 along with FX-51. Using Clawhammer core, 1MB of L2 cache.

And it never hurts to have some spare HDDs 😀
Both Maxtors at right side have over 60k power-on hours and still in perfect shape, just as the rest which are pretty much new with only 5k hours. 😎

I think I have to install some WIn NT on the Dual P1 system, as it can use both processors... And early macs, like these don't worh with PC displays (and my original mac display is stored away now) - so I'll make reports about these machines in work about New Year, I think)....

For explanation: It just blew my socks off that this can be found in Czech Republic.

I just scored this on ebay for $40 (not including S&H, still waiting for the invoice on shipping)!

I absolutely love the case and it will be used in my upcoming 486 build. But what's inside will be parted out. I didn't want to hog up this post with all the pictures (a total of 12) so I'll just tell you what's inside. I can't identify any of the expansion cards but the CPU in an Am386DX-40 and a PCI AT motherboard. The hard drive was also removed long ago, probably when the computer was taken out of commission. The inside of the case has some very minor rust issues which I will fix and the front as can be seen is dirty and yellowed so it will be cleaned and given a retrobright treatment. Obviously I will need drive bay covers which kinda sucks that I have to get ones that won't "match" the case, but for the price I scored this whole computer for, I can't complain.

Nice, BrAlZy. Are you going to do any progress blogging anywhere? Seems like a fun, full-on rebuild (rust removal, hydrogen peroxide, system build, OS install). A wonderful project.

Not sure if I will, but it's not a bad idea. Maybe I'll make a YouTube video similar to those created by victorbart.

Found cheap on ebay a Vortex2 sound card that had been mislabeled as "video card with audio ports" 😀

So I finally took pics of my FreeGeek haul.

http://imgur.com/a/sIod1

Not pictured is a Pentium 233 MMX CPU (installed and in use right now), a Socket 7 HSF, and 2 Socket 370 HSFs (thought it would work on the Auss P5A, but caps were in the way).
