I've been searching for a 1Ghz Slot-A Athlon Thunderbird (with the full speed cache) for many years now.. I haven't actually seen one actually for sale anywhere since right about when they came out new originally and the 3-5 years after that then they sort of all disappeared. Well rather, I did see one on ebay once for $600.. but that doesn't really count.

It's somewhat rare, but you'd have to expand your search to motherboards and systems as well. I saw another Athlon slot 1GHz (unsure if Classic or TBird) sold for well under $100 in a combo.

@dexvx: nice Athlon 1GHz 😁

I got one too, so can finish collecting slot A platform.

Nice, unfortunately, since mine was HP OEM, it only has a somewhat large heatsink. Hard to install a fan because it will get very close to the memory sockets.

I think the classic Athlon (Orion core) 1GHz is much rarer. I was at a recycler and saw an Athlon 700 MHz (Pluto, fastest of that core). May pick it up if it's still there next time.

http://www.cpu-world.com/Cores/Pluto.html
Isn't the Pluto 850MHz the fastest one?
I have a 800MHz Pluto. 😕

I think he meant the original 250nm K7... which is called Argon I believe and 700 MHz is in fact the fastest model.

Nice find - but does any of the "bridged" cards actually work in AGP 2x/3.3V? I know NV40 works in i440BX, but no idea on these.

So far I've tested only GeForce 6600GT and HSI bridge had no problems with 440BX chipset. If I'am no mistaken, someone here mentioned about Galaxy 7600GS working with AGP 3.3v board.

Thanks for correction, I meant Argon @ 700 MHz. Need to head back to the recycler, I recall they have a 486 system. It would be nice since I fried mine 🙁

An internet friend from another online community sent me this for the price of shipping.

3D Cool tower with AMD Socket A 1GHz, 512MB RAM... complete rig except for HD + sound card. I had an HD + a Yamaha Audician lying around so I tossed them in.

Nice computer, check the videocard clocks in Everest/AIDA32, it could be ethier an standard TNT2 (125/150 core/mem) or a TNT2 Pro (143/166 core/mem) which is a good videocard for time

Got my first XT motherboard for free today! It's something called Super 10-B (wasn't able to find any info on it so far) it comes with a Fujitsu MBL-8088-1 CPU and I don't know how much RAM.

I have an 8-bit sound card for it (Sound Commander Ex if I remember correctly), an OTIVGA videocard, a serial port card, but not much else. No XT PSU, no XT case, no XT keyboard and, most importantly, no disk controller or any other means of data transfer. So I'm not sure when I'm going to use it (if ever) but still nice to have.

An AT PSU and AT case can work fine, but you do need a XT keyboard.

OTI VGA cards can be put in CGA compatibility mode, and it works well for the majority of games. For data you can use low Density floppies only, until you are something that allows you to use fixed disks.

Don't forget to reconnect the power cable inside the chassis! They are usually configured for 110V/60Hz
