Found a bunch of goodies at various places today. Even found a new "vintage" shop that had some computers and audio stuff, its where I picked up the vic-20 at. Unfortunately the shop owner tried to test the vic-20 and plugged it directly into the wall with out the power pack. The fuse blew, but I don't know if it survived. I have no hookups for it at this time, so it will have to wait.

as a follow up on the Vic-20. I replaced the fuse and it turned on like nothing happened. Basic pop'd right up.

Now you need the 32K RAM expansion board so you can run some of the 32K homebrews for the VIC-20.

Its the older 2 pin connector. I borrowed a psu from a buddy to test with. The only thing I have is the unit, no other hookups.

I'm just going to leave this here... See if you can guess what it is just from the cooler ...

When someone finds out what it is, i'll post more pictures and maybe tell you how much I paid for it...

That's why it stings, some people have them ranked with Asus etc, me, I have good luck with PC Chips, I have 2 functional JTS Hard drives, hell there's even a Deathstar around somewhere that's still apparently all good and working, but most of my expensive failures have been gigabyte.

Now test it please.
It came bundle with a Gigabyte motherboard and according to the manual one is required. I've also seen it for sale but the motherboard requirement made me skip it.

Oh man. Exact opposite here. I swore I would never purchase another ASUS board so long as I live and have sworn by Gigabyte ever since. Gosh. I guess it has been 15 years now.

Not all IBM Deskstar drives suck. AFAIK only the ones manufactured during a relatively short period around 1999-2000. The later, larger drives work entirely fine.

It is a Gigabyte 3D1, Dual 6600GT SLI on a Single Card.

Originally sold for $500 in a bundle with a Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI, it was on par or better than the X850 Ultra / 6800 Ultra. According to some sites, only 1000 of them were made, but even if it's not true, it's still a damn rare vídeo card.

Even tho most websites just say that it only works with the GA-K8NXP-SLI, it will also work with some other models like the GA-8N-SLI and it's three variants, The GA-K8N-SLI and it's variants and basically every Gigabyte Card that has one of these:

The way Gigabyte was able to do this, is by splitting the top x16 pci-ex slot into 2 x8. That card when plugged in normal mode will make the top slot work as a x16, when in sli mode will make the top x8 and the 2nd one as x8 too.

I've read that in other motherboards it does work as a normal 6600GT, unless some new drivers unlocked the ability to use it on normal motherboards. I'll test it this afternoon.

I did get the original Motherboard CD, the S-Video output conector, and extra bracket for support.

Cool.... Good to hear that it is working. Though they are not really super rare, I think you will be able to sell it anyway. Lots of potential buyers out there. Personally, I am more a kind of C64 and Amiga guy, when it comes to non-X86 stuff. If I was to buy a Vic20, it would just end up in the closet. Anything prior to 286's, then I am all C64.

That said. Good find, and great that it is working. Hope it will go to a new home were it will recieve oceans of love.

Bought this WD 80 GB drive, which finally accepted Windows 98 as its companion 😀 I already had the same one, but with SATA interface, and that just wouldn't work at all (installation hang at the end).

I think I have one of those but in 250GB, I've bought an external HDD enclosure and to my surprised it turned out to be IDE with a WD2500.

Got this from a large bin at a goodwill-like store:
