Not sure. There was only a picture of the front and rear and it was less than $50 shipped so I took my chances. There's unfortunately no way of proving it was damaged by shipping

Got myself a cheap Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+ as well as -
a pre-built Pi1541 HAT with OLED display, for my Commodore 64.

The Pi will be here tomorrow, whilst the Pi1541 should arrive in the New Year. But in the meantime I can still play around with Risc OS on the Pi. 🤣

I already have an SD2IEC for my Commodore 64, but decided to give the Pi1541 a go for it's much better compatibility, plus the OLED display & included buttons should make navigating disk images much nicer, with no filename character limits like in CBM File Browser (which I'll still use for .PRG files).

Nice.... I am thinking of getting a PI-1541 setup as well. For the moment I am doing ok with my SD2IEC.

That will be interesting, particularly if there are any differences with it's output with regards to S-Video compatibility & vertical banding.

The R5 is much better than the R1. It's actually no comparison. The R5 has a very sharp picture and almost no color-banding. Note however that the R1 renders the colors different than later revisions.

Vertical banding can only be fixed by installing a LumaFix, not by upgrading the VIC-II chip.

I found, that using composit only, gives the best picture quality on my CRT television. I have both scart and composit cable, and scart makes a too soft image on that specific television. Amiga is a way different beast, as it delivers extremely good quality, if I set the scart input to RGB, and not scart-video. Unfortunately I do not have any S-Video on that television.

Yup... Banding, jailbars or spaghetti lines. It is all in the VIC-II chip. In that breadbin, I have a 5 volt 8569-R2 installed on top of an adaptor that I have made. (giving the 5volt and not 12volt), and the jailbars/banding are there. Way more prominent than on the 6569-R1.

However....
The 6569-R1 have this strange thing of blending the colours together, that I have a problem reading the texts in the event list on Winther games. If this new purchase will give me a better machine, then I have to get rid of the R1 chip. No need to have that if I can find anyone that can use it for something.

Yet another haul — this December has been particularly kind to me. I now have a bit of an issue, because I've nearly doubled my collection, and now I have to let go of some items, but nearly every thing in the last three hauls was new to me. So, here's what I got today for a total of 55 USD:

Two combo floppy drives by Epson, a Toshiba SCSI CD-ROM and a regular 5.25 inch drive

A bunch of old HDDs. Mostly MFM, but there is also an early IDE drive in the mix. I really like the disk on a panel with an MFM controller.

Bunch of MFM controllers, two EGA/VGA cards and regular ISA IDE controller.

SCSI ISA controllers

GeForce 256 and AWE32 Value

DX2 and DX4 Overdrives

A multi I/O with what looks like a Microsoft InPort Mouse port (at least the mouse fits), two IDE2CF adapters and two keyboards adapters (PS2>AT and AT>PS2).

And now the most interesting part: UMAX S900:

On the surface it looks like a regular ATX case akin to a Dell Dimension T500 (and it's really the same case by Palo Alto), but it's actually a Mac. Just not made by Apple.

It was upgraded to a G3 500 MHz CPU:

It also somehow has 400MB of RAM, three SCSI hard drives and 6 PCI slots. Guess this machine really needs a Voodoo!

Sweet.... Was that not one of those, that was licensed by Apple, and killed off by Jobs after he returned. They were on the market for like one or two years, and was only licensed for MacOS-7 or something.

Bought a Sound Blaster AWE 64 Gold boxed complete for $50 (gave the owner of the computer thrift store/recycling center an extra $2 since it's Christmas time) and a portable HP DeskJet 350c. Yesterday, I bought a new 200GB Seagate IDE HDD.

I tried to buy 2 120GB IDE HDDs from amazon but they sent me a 160 and a 180, Maxtor drives, I wanted 120s for Windows 98. If I only partition these to use 120GB will 98 think its only a 120 GB drive or will it eventually shit the bed and loose data anyways? It seems like I should be ok if partitions are not greater than 120GB right?

i have that same microsoft mouse on my Pentium 100 MHz PC but a Serial/PS2 compatible version.

Just go for seagate disks and resize them, using seatools.
