Well the seller had it listed for a little over $150 plus shipping, which was another $22 so the total cost would have been almost $180 to my door, and that's just too much for me to justify spending on an empty case. It was on my watch list for months but the seller never lowered the price, so a few days ago I emailed the seller and said I'd love to buy the case but I can't justify the high price, so if they would consider $100 shipped I'd buy it. At first they said they could only knock $10 off the price and I responded and said I just couldn't justify it for old hardware but good luck with the sale. They then came back with an offer of $100 plus shipping which I accepted, so I got it for about 35% below their asking price. Really friendly seller so I'm pleased.

I know it's a lot to pay for just a case but as I said it's very nostalgic for me because it's the same case I had when I was really heavy into PC gaming and I ran that rig for years updating along the way, and it's the only one I've ever seen come up for sale, especially new in the box. It's also the only time I put a neon light kit in my case (yeah I went through that phase) so, good times and great memories.

The only other case I'm planning on buying new on eBay like that, which will cost another $100 or so, is a CTX style AT case, because it's the same case as the very first PC I bought, a 200 MHz AMD K6 system, so that one also has a special place. Other than that, I'd like to buy more beige cases for older builds but they're just hard to find, and people list them for stupid high prices on ebay most of the time, and like you said they're costly to ship. I'm not going to spend over $200 on a used beige case which is yellowed and missing drive bay covers. I'll just frequent the local thrift stores and flea markets until I find what I want.

Nah, if it’s something that makes you feel happy, I think you got a good deal. 😀 That is a sweet looking case, and I’m a bit jealous. I easily would have paid $100 for it myself.

Phase? Neon lighting isn’t a phase! My main desktop is full of configurable lights... the video card has lights, CPU, case fans, and I have a RGB mechanical keyboard and mouse to match. 😜

I needed to get a new case for one of my older ATX builds, and I broke down and bought a very modern one from BestBuy just today, only because I had rewards points that covered the cost completely. It’s black, and won’t look like a retro PC, but at least the drives will be screwed in and the case will have a cover, 🤣. I’m planning to go through the entire Wing Commander series again, so unretired this old hardware, to get started on WC 1 & 2. I even bought a Sidewinder Pro to plug in to the AWE32 game port.

I’ve been doing a lot of transactions on eBay myself recently, and most of them have been very pleasant. I take the same approach as you where I contact the seller first to see if their price is negotiable. I’ve been able to work out some really great deals with great sellers. Out of 30-40 transactions in the past 30 days, I’ve only had to deal with one jerk seller.

Anyway, nice case. I’m interested in seeing what it looks like once you hook everything up. 😀 Enjoy it!

It's a solid case, and big! Deeper than your average case. I can definitely vouch for it. Sure wish I had kept my original one, hindsight being 20/20. I'm just deciding on which motherboard to get for it now. It'll be a VIA KT133A board to pair with a Tbird CPU and DDR RAM. Probably either a MSI or Abit board. I'll post up pics when I have it built.

Nice. I’ve always been a fan of ABit. I’m using a BE6 1.0A board still for my PIII 733 slot 1. I bought this motherboard back in the day because it offers SoftMenu II which allows you to configure the CPU, bus speed, etc, right in the BIOS, no dip switches.

Regarding keeping old hardware... yeah maybe 10 - 15 years ago, I scored 6 dual CPU servers from an old work place for $20. I had them stacked up in the basement, for a few years, and could never figure out I wanted to do with them. They all ran fine, and I believe were running windows server 2000 or 2003? I don’t remember exactly. Well, I ended up dumping them as e-waste, because they were taking up too much room, plus we moved cross-country and I couldn’t justify paying to move them. Man do I regret that.

I got myself a Colormax 3dfx voodoo card.
Purchased : 2x ASUS P/I-P54SP4 socket 5 motherboards. In the hope i got something running. The ECS SI54P AIO that iam trying to fix does have a problem.. 2 of the 4 new simm memory banks doesnt seems to work. I think its a existing ealier problem before i starting to (de)solder the memory banks.. I need to measure the traces to see if they all have continuity and its not a soldering fault. But for now the board is still in fixing, so its not able to install it in the new machine to build.

Also bought the new version of the GAL for the soundblaster 2.0 CT1350B card (which could not be fixed before.)
Also got 3 cpu coolers for pentium 1.

Also got IPA 99,9 lab quality

And got 8 pentium 133 non mmx processors.

Been casually lurking this forum lightly for the last year or so since I bought a random OEM Gateway machine in 2018. Finally went all in on some computing stuff this past week, upgrading the windows 98 PC to my sig, and I got a Pentium 233Mhz MMX prebuilt. Case and everything are great and I've got DOS 6.22 running on it (games are slower than expected, but I'm guessing that's due to the ISA Trident 8900D-R VGA card it came with). Turns out the motherboard is one of those WinBios American Megatrends boards, looks like a PCI-III based on this manual looking the same and supporting up to 233Mhz. On the board itself it's 757 Rev. D

I like the winbios so I'm happy, but I had never heard of a Voltage Regulator Module (right of the CPU) before, don't know if I need to be concerned with it. Everything is working, but I was surprised something that looks like an early Pentium board (to my newbie eyes) supports the MMX line. The manual doesn't even give jumper settings for 233Mhz, but it must be the same as the factory setting since it's reporting correctly.

Also bought a broken 486 to get a desktop AT case and PSU for super cheap in case I want to do a real 386 Wing Commander build one day. Big thanks to this forum for existing otherwise I'd have no idea what I was pouring money into haha

Most highend socket7 mobos back in mid 90's supported Pentium-MMX with bios update. I recently acquired a 430TX and HX mobo, and updated their bios to plug MMX. They work like a charm.

That's a sweet looking board! The chipset is high-end - 430HX pretty much ties with 430TX as the best option you can find for the first Pentium.

That massive VRM heatsink is quite a curiosity. This is the sign the manufacturer used a lower cost regulator with high voltage drop, which is abundant on cheap boards (i.e. Lucky Star 5I-VX2B), but at the same time invested in a quality heatsink to deal with the problem. Notice the space it takes! The board could have been so much smaller and cheaper if they used a higher quality low drop regulator!

I bought this 1999 Power Mac G4 Yikes few days ago. It was very dirty and sold as not working. All it needed was good cleanup, new battery and new hard drive 😀 I completely disassembled it and gave all the parts blast of compressed air and a good wash. Then I polished out all the small scratches in the glossy plastic parts, and the result looks quite nice IMO.

Some sellers really don't care much about how they package their items. This was only wrapped in one layer of cardboard without cushioning, but by some miracle, it doesn't have any cracks in the plastic parts. I can imagine those handles would be first ones to go, when dropped.

I really like how this case opens 😀

I know this is one of the least desirable models to have, but who cares, I like it 😀 Many years ago, I had a beige Power Mac G3, that got destroyed in my overclocking experiments 🙁 I think I will be more careful with this one.

I'm going to more or less build it again to the same specs with a 1.2 or 1.4 GHz Tbird and probably throw my Voodoo 5500 in it.

Those case designs are the reason why I did not buy any new stuff in the 00's. I do not like them, and I saw my fair share of them, as I build computers for a living between 2003 and 2006. However, we all love different stuff, and that is a great thing. Congrats on getting a case of personal nostalgia. 😀

Well, couldn't not buy this lot - got involved in discussion on P75 Vs P66. Problem is that they're rarely compared with the same chipset, let alone similar BIOS and settings. Now, I already have an Asus PCI/I-P5SP4 So4 board. What turned up last week:

Yep, an Asus PCI/I-P54SP4, i.e. exactly the same chipset and board, just with a big 5V-3.3V regulator and So5 instead. Will need to sort out the missing BIOS and undoubtedly dead RTC, but with a bit of luck benchmarking will soon commence 😀

Edit: BIOS not missing, I just need my eyes checking.

But there was more. First up a few cards:

Old Etherlink II isn't too hot and the AVM Fritz!cards ISDN adapter is completely useless in this day and age. But the USB adapter with Lucent chipset is interesting - only USB1.1, but with four separate hosts instead of a single one behind a hub. And that ELSA Erazor II-P16 (TNT PCI) is downright nice.

But the best is yet to come:

Asus P3C-E. Possibly the nicest i820 board due to the ISA slot.

Of course I would need Rambus RDRAM for that. Or maybe not...

WTF, an MTH-on-a-stick???

If I had to nominate something for the worst single idea in computer hardware, this would probably get my vote 😜

Now it's time to test this stuff. Let's hope most of it is in working order...

AFAIK, the cases on these PowerPC Macs use polycarbonate for the clear parts, which is quite robust. The same stuff is used for F1 driver helmet visors...

Yes, I have selected exactly the ones you also chose.

I am quite sure there is not much more in this lot, maybe a SB32, a VLB VGA and a Matrox with RAM-extension. There were more photos.

Got the Diamond Viper V330 PCI.

Made in 1997 it is way too new for most of my systems. But it is a stellar 2D / DOS performer. Also handles 50 MHz PCI.
