Matrox Mystique 4MB + 2MB memory expansion.

Not that I need it, I just thought having a graphics card with a memory expansion module would be kinda cool.

That should be 2 MB + 2 MB. The Mystique does not support more than 4 MB and the 4 MB ones have a label saying "non-upgradable".

This is completely wrong. Mystique supports up to 8MB of SGRAM and Matrox even produced 6MB memory expansion modules for 2MB Mystique cards.

Briefly tested this card.

Very fast in DOS, at least as fast as S3 Savage4.

Savage4 has some display problems in PC Player Benchmark at 640x480 (flashing black bar at the bottom of the screen), no such nonsense with the Matrox.

The best thing about the Mystique is that my 16:10 monitor displays 320x200 and 640x400 in the correct 4:3 aspect ratio. Both Savage4 and GeForce 2MX output 320x200 and 640x400 as 16:10.

Well, technically, 320x200 and 640x400 are 16:10 😁

Not quite today, but I had it in quarantine for a bit... A super cool Socket 5/Socket 7 K6-2 upgrade that I hope to use in the not too distant future.

Funny, one showed up at my door too. Imagine that! Probably the best Socket 5 upgrade out there?

This is actually for a friend and fellow vintage hardware enthusiast in the UK. Sending this along with some Socket 8 goodness from the 2018 haul later this year.

I bought one of those upgrade CPUs when they were new and I still use it today in a older Compaq all in one presario 4402.

Nice to know yours is still humming along. Did yours get a lot of use? Sounds like a reliable upgrade.

Yeah it's Rock solid. Back in the day it was the family daily driver. The computer has that upgrade cpu, 128 megs of Edo ram, pci voodoo 3 that system is still fully functional today. It runs 98se beautiful my son uses it for older games as well as educational programs from when I was younger.

Yeah, a guy has a batch of NOS units over @ tomshardware.com and is accepting offers. >> https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/wts-e … de-nib.3584172/

and posted at VCF >> http://www.vcfed.org/forum/showthread.php?742 … rade-New-in-Box

He also has some open units as well.

Wow nice find. Sadly I don't have any extra money currently for retro hardware. The fun part about the upgrade if you have a coast module or cache on the motherboard after you install the cpu that coast stick or on board L2 becomes L3 cache as the cpu has l2 cache on die

Found someone that sell NOS Commodore64 RF modulators at a fair price. So I bought one for the replica board that I have bought yesterday.

One item down, need to hunt more parts. And in the end I still need original chips. And other parts might turn out to be even more difficult to source. Oh well... At least I will be building my own C64 from scratch. 😁

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

Interesting, sounds like the mainboard that I have in my 2nd 486 machine. It's external 25MHz, so with a DX/2 50 CPU? Maybe it can be changed to 33MHz.
Waiting for the pictures when you got it 😀

Yes, I spotted your topic. Sellers vague pics look like exactly the same board (with obscure Micronics Local Bus and all). If it's only DX2/50, not DX/50, that board is asking for a little crystal upgrade 😉

I don't think the Micronics' asic could handle 50MHz, so to 99% it's a 25MHz board.
Also you won't probably have any advantage from external 50MHz (and most likely the mystery micronics local bus won't run on 50MHz neither, but that would be no problem, because there are no cards for it 😁) and the cache srams are per default 20ns types (tag 15ns). But 25MHz will cost performance, I don't think the DX2/50 is a lot faster than a normal DX33.
But OK, it's speculation, I wait for your report when you get the board. 😀

Man, I would buy that CPU upgrade myself, if money wasn't tight as a drum (need to buy supplies to build a computer/workbench/repair/projects desk in my back room/laundry room).

Sure about the L2 on die? The image on the box says K6-2, not K6-2+ or K6-3 ..

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀
