doing a repair on an ESI-4000 sampler that I picked up for nothing.. with an EMU8000 chip in it that it used for its effects.

Nice find. I hope you can get it functional again. It's also neat that it uses a zip drive.

Nice! A few years back I had to repair an Ensoniq ASR-10 with the SCSI add-on board. I wanted to dump all my old songs from 25 years ago to Ableton and picked it up on the cheap as ASR-10s have become quite expensive. Once I was done I sold it off to another musician, cheap, who was going to do the same thing. Good luck on the repair.

thanks. the fixes are all basic. replace screen (contrast has gone), encoder (worn out), volume pot (took a knock in shipping) and add scsi2sd (replacing scsi zip). Should be less thant 30 minutes all up and will be better than new 😀 screen is just an off the shelf HD44780, common pcb size. replacing encoder needs desoldering but its like 5 pins. should be simple...

Set your own realistic goals, and maybe in time you might meet or exceed what you envied, or at least you will have collected or obtained "stuff" (its just that, stuff.) that should provide you some level of joy or happiness.

If you spend your life envying others "stuff" and get obsessed over it, you will never be happy.

The v3 is an excellent card though. I would probably pay low triple digits for a nice example, if i didn't have a few already.

I own two: a 3000 which I got (on eBay!) for 20 bucks and a 3500TV which I got for free.

I got a V3 3000 PCI and paid $60 for it back in 2017 (used). Only mod was the fan installation and still runs.
