The point to all this is that parts from a smoking environment are not necessarily a significant issue, unless they come from the home of a chain-smoker who did not believe in ever opening a window .

Yes there is the "tar" effect from those that never opened a window ! Sorta like when I worked for a machine shop that did brakes and cylinder heads back about 1980. The junk that engines build up back then was crazy and took putty knifes and wire brushes to clean off before you even tried to do any work. Am actually glad that was one of my early college jobs, made me NOT afraid of crude build up in computers ;p

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

How nice, you did what I ordered you to do in this post - Re: My big benchmark of Am386DX-40 motherboards.

I got a brand new in the box Magitronics case, psu, and mobo from 1992! Has an AMD 386sx-25 onboard. Had a Varta battery but it didn't leak much. Cleaned it up with vinegar and installed a new battery.

Using a sealed external lithium battery pack is highly recommended.
NiMH are good but any battery directly soldered to the board is an unnecessary risk, even button cells are known to leak sometimes.

That's a very nice looking case, kingcake!

I wonder what was the link between Magitronic and Gigabyte... almost every Gigabyte board I've come across from the early-mid 90's had a Magitronic label.

Doesn't really count as "bought"...... found a Logitech Wingman Warrior on the sidewalk for free.... not much else good in the box, a radioshack electronics learning kit for kids, a TV box, a ps/2 to usb adapter (also took it), power supplies...

Then why don't you post it here: I recently found this hardware, AKA the Dumpster find thread.

I agree, but this case/mobo is so pristine from being in climate controlled storage since 92 I want to keep it looking period correct.

Anyway, such cards always remind me how immensly flexible x86 architecture was and is and it's uses extends far behind home/office or even server room use.

Something that people with those silly old Amigas or Macs will never understand :]

Wait til they find out the first AirPort base station has a 486 SoC at its heart 😂

Got this baller-looking videocard, an Asus V9999!

Very nice packaging and very mint card.

I immediately fell in love with the heatsink, fan and the fact that it comes overclocked out of the box. Back in the day it was about 130 euro more expensive than a normal GeForce 6800 GT.

Makes me feel like owning one of those overlocked RTX 2080 Supers.

Box doesn't come with all the extra hardware and software, but I don't mind! When you take into account how much stuff this came with the extra price was not bad at all.
