A set of retro speakers. Beige is beautiful, and the sound is actually not bad at all 😀 I suppose these are from late 90's?

🙁

is that damage on the inside or outside (anti-glare?) of the tube?

if it's on the inside, what happened even, did it break and lose it's vacuum?

Yeah, it had one layer of bubble wrap around it and it must have gotten compressed end to end. That little curved sliver of glass appears to be part of the neck of the tube that got crushed.

I can't even describe how disappointed I am. The seller said he had shipped many monitors without problems. Said the key was to use lots of packaging. Well... he used one heavy duty bubble wrap bag type thing, put it in the box with some other items, and it got crushed in at least two different directions. It was a rare deal I couldn't pass up, but I'd have much rather left it alone than to have been involved in this thing getting smashed.

If I was slightly less reasonable, I'd cry. No electronic device lasts forever or truly "matters" in the grand scheme of things, but there are so few things left that can do what this does... what a loss.

Feel your pain. Had Dell 17" CRT shipped to me a couple months ago and was packaged reasonably. However whoever delivered must have
dropped the box on the corner so of course that shattered the one corner. It was in great shape otherwise, it's a pity people have no pride
in their work!

Just purchased a Quadro FX 500 128MB card from ebay for £13.00. It looks exactly like my reference Ti4200 that I sold a couple of years ago (instant regret). I know it's more or less a 128bit slightly higher clocked FX5200/5500, but looks like a perfect match form my new 98SE P4 2.53Ghz build, and I've heard the Quadro's have better components. It shall replace my 128bit 64MB Mx 440, so at least I can enable pixel shader in Max Payne 2. Was tempted to get a 6 series card - maybe 6600 vanilla or GT, but heard about it being a little unstable in 98 with limited drivers.

...lastly, a Siemens Nixdorf Slot 1 BX board - the D1064-A12 - with onboard Matrox G100 4MB video (2 + 2). It's apparently able to accept processors to at least PIII 800 but has the facility to use a small app they have to update the microcode patch area without needing a revised BIOS. I've found a source online for the patch files so I'll see how far I can push it with both Slot 1 & sloketed processors. It's also visually one of the nicest old board I've seen in a while - a good color & all the board silkscreening is done in gold relief lettering. Even the caps are Siemens branded (wonder how good they were re. failing?)

That Siemens board is really cool. I love that sleek green PCB. Reminds me of Canopus cards like the Pure3D and Total3D. I'm sure your system will be a bit fast for cards like those, but they'd sure look pretty together. 😀

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

That Siemens board is top notch. I bet those caps are fine! One way to find out 😉 would make a killer Voodoo 2 SLI rig with that G100 onboard for 2d DOS stuff.

Guys... I could cry.

This is... or was... a Sony CPD-1302. An exceedingly rare RGB digital\analog selectable multisync monitor compatible with CGA\EGA\PGA\MDA and others.

No words...

Just.........

No words...

What a shame 🙁 These monitors are indeed very rare and as you said this probably could have been avoided with better packing.

I understand some of us don't want to deal with CRTs anymore but to me they're the main part of the retrocomputing experience - I have quite a few of them and hope to keep them running for as long as possible.

AFAIK The CPD-1404 is a 31.5khz VGA/SVGA 14" monitor so I find it suprising it would use the same tube as the CPD-1302...

I've got that exact same Cambridge Soundworks 4.0 speaker set. I got mine new back in 1999 or 2000 and they've been in active duty ever since on various different family PCs over the years.

The single point of failure on those things tends to be the volume control and I've already replaced one of those over the years, with the current volume control just about functioning with lots of crackling and channels disappearing when you try to adjust it. Needs a bit of soldering work to sort, which I'll get around to 1 day.

Apart from that though, the speakers themselves do indeed sound great.

I vaguely recall they came with silly plastic tripod mounts for the rear speakers and more sensible plastic stands for the fronts that enabled the speakers to be angled upwards slightly. The rear tripods I've long since lost or broken, as I'd guess most people did. 🤣

well according to the service manuals they are, also the 14/13 difference is just in naming with regional differences, the CPD-1302 is also a 14" tube monitor, 13" is the visible area just as on the CPD-1404 or if you go by US naming CPD-1304 which should essentially be the same monitor (checked the service manual and it lists the same tube too)... the CPD-1302 was probably also just called CPD-1402 in europe, same is true for several PVMs... iirc there was some law thing where monitors had to be designated by the picture size in the US, while everywhere else they were just marketed with their tube size, hence why in europe say a 17" digital display has a larger picture area than a 17" CRT

can get a bit confusing when communicating about older monitors ^^

Bought this batch of RAM yesterday.
They're mostly small in capacity, and mostly DDR and DDR2, but there's a pair of 512MB PC-133s (Kingston).
There are also four pieces of DDR RAM for registered ECC servers of 128MB each.
Among the DDR2 there are two Corsair of 512MB each PC667.
They arrive perhaps at the weekend, or at the beginning of the next one at the most.

Just won what I think is a Radeon X1300 Pro. It was listed as "ATI-102-A676 Radeon DVI/VGA PCI Video Card 102A6762631". Looks like the first thing it will need is a damn good clean up. Cost £4.19 shipped. It pays to bid on every cheap card (by cheap, I mean under £5 shipped)

Ah Cambridge Soundworks. I had those speakers minus the subwoofer back in the day. They were the best speakers I’ve ever owned.

Bit different - Another random purchase from eBay for just a few pounds.
mx1004.PNG

It's an IBM/ISS Proventia MX1004 firewall - I'm going to try and upgrade it as much as possible and run Sophos XG firewall on it.

I believe it's a Celeron 600Mhz or something inside with a normal looking 2.5" hard drive according to this picture I found.

mx1004 2.PNG

It was a risk worth taking as it was £6 on Ebay, but turns out this is pretty useless. I was hoping to bump the CPU and RAM up to make it useful, but the Celeron 600 is soldered in so I can't replace it. It has one SODIMM slot (one only pads on the board) with just 512MB PC2 RAM in it and will only go up to 1GB. I found the VGA header inside and wondered about making it a DOS box but it has no sound capability. It was funny using the Award BIOS through the serial port though!

At least I get a working 40GB IDE 2.5" drive out of it though.

Picked up some old hardware today from an old friend. He's had this stuff sitting in his office since it was new.

MSI 875P Neo
Startech underdesk keyboard tray
2 x 92mm fans
1 x 120mm fan grill
2 x mousepads (1 Leadtek branded, other blue)

The motherboard is obviously the most interesting piece and I'll see if I can get it working this weekend. Supposedly it was DOA and never sent back to the distributor.
