I didn't even know there was an HD5450 PCI card... that is one I don't have.

I'm aware of 4.

HIS made one with 512MB DDR3

Club3D, PowerColor and VTX3D made one with 512MB DDR2

There may be others, I'm just getting round to researching manufacturers which folded more than 5 or so years ago.

Edit:
So there are two differrent PCI HD5450 cards. A 512MB on and a 1GB one.

Both were made by Jaton
512MB: Video-339PCI-HLX
1GB : Video-339PCI-HLP

Very interesting.

I didn't know those cards. Hope to add them to my database soon 😀

Just bought this Miro Crystal 10SB VLB card today. The oldest S3 card in my collection when it arrives.

Also some HD5450 are available in 2GB.

Cheers,

In PCI form? I could only find those in PCIe

Possibly.

Looking closer at the card, it is using the PLX PCIe <-> PCI bridge so yeah, pretty much any 5450 should work with one of those PCIe to PCI adapters.

It is nice to have the cards with the bridge chips on the card because then you can mount the card in the normal place instead of having to mount it elsewhere.

Got a S2 Savage4 Pro AGP (Creative CT6900) for some 2 dollars, wanted to try the Metal API. Man, what a pain to get it working in my test setup, the drivers are...an adventure...Win98 could not get it working properly (bluescreening, freezing or not initializing properly on startup), under WinXP it worked fine but there are some DLL errors on Unreal Gold startup, will keep trying, it is an intriguing card for sure...

That's a very good price. just got one for $7.5 and this is what I got:

s3svg4pro1.md.jpg s3svg4pro2.md.jpg

And it's a 16MB variant.

At least it was sent in an ESD bag. I guess. One of the worst packaging I've got so far. As for the heatsink, I don't have any thermal glue, so I'll have to find another way to put it back. As fat as it looks, it's not damaged. I hope it works. If not, I see 2 other local listing that ends this Sunday. Those are not Pro-s, but have 32MB memory.

Funny thing is, back in elementary school a friend had a similar Savage4. And one time we played maybe Need for Speed 4 we heard something falling down and knocking in the PC case.
Turned out, the glue on the thermal glue melted and the heatsink fell off. As it seems this card almost had a similar story. Is that a common thing?

Have a few of these boxed & loose (for my AGP-less server boards)...basically the PowerColor / VTX3D (TUL brands) & the Club3D are exactly the same as they're all made by TUL. Think only the HIS may be their own.

Was surplus to my requirements, but it is a very fine S3 805 VLB card.

You need the right drivers, I had the same with Manli's S3 Savage4. There were also problems on the VIA chipset boards (KT333, KT400A), with nForce3 250 all good, but Manli is not the most renowned producer, maybe that´s why.

my bet is still on SB 1.0 clone, but I sure wish I'd know more about it ^^ hope I will get around to testing it this week.
if anyone got any pointers as to who made this card any info is welcome :3

Any markings om the big chip? The smaller FM12 -> FM1312 was on the original soundblaster, I'm expecting the big to be marked CT21 or similar. Who made the card: not possible to tell without a picture of the back or a straight picture from the front so we can spot any other markings, however small, somewhere.

Not sure how common common is, but I've seen it happen to quite a few cards and CPUs for that matter (back in the 486 and early Pentium days when glueing on was an option). Bad engineering IMHO, but sometimes you have no choice if there are no holes nearby to connect stuff. Like on my MS-6168 with onboard Voodoo 3. That chip screams for a decent cooling solution, but anything better than the crap little fan it came with will fall off when it gets hot 🙁

I think that is a HIS card, I have this card and it was a bit difficult to take of the heatsink. If it is a HIS card then it should be clocked at 110MHz and 125MHz for chip/memory respectively. At that speed Savage4 can work without heatsink (like Diamond S520, s530) For safety little fan can do the work 😀

I've always thought that only "Pro" chip can have 32MB memory, LT is up to 8MB and GT up to 16MB. Can you please share links for these cards you mentioned or some photos?

Yes, that I can confirm. It runs at 110/125. Just my luck, like with the Savage 3D I found one of the slower ones. At least it posts.

Anyway, on my way home I bought some thermal adhesive so I'll reattach the heatsink.

They are pretty boring looking cards. Just like any Trio3D would look with a heatsink. But after looking up what they are, it seems Savage4 Xtreme. And they are both still below $1 on auction. I'll probably give into the temptation and just try my luck.

Bought an AMD build at a flea market today. That's one way to fix a cooler. 😁
