Well.... Your mac uses eighter 115 or 145 watt in idle, and my media server uses just under 10 watt when going full speed.
You can actually set more than 10 PI's up and run then full hammer, while that mac is running in idle, and still use less power.
When your mac runs full hammer, it eats up power for 26 to 30 PI's going full hammer.

Yeah, I have run the numbers on computer energy consumption. Its also going to be a dual purpose dual boot desktop computer/Media server. Windows/OSX operating systems.
Its a little high on energy costs but should only be in use about 8 hours a day and will be in sleep mode the rest of the time.

What is your monthly electricity bill? Mine is at 65 US Dollars total each month. (aprox 108 KW/H a month)

My monthly bill is only $50 a month at this time of year, and I run folding at home on a GTX 1060. I do have solar panels though 😀

I have done it in the past with other cards, the alternative you suggest of the external battery, instead requires the setting of the jumpers, theoretically it is simple to do, unfortunately I do not have the manual and therefore I do not know how and what are the jumpers to set.

I'm 99% sure that the ext. battery connector is the 4-pin connector next to the barrel battery, and pin marked "1" (closest to the barrel battery) is the positive. It's also likely that the 3-pin jumper block right next to the battery connector is the one responsible for enabling the external battery. You could try changing the jumper setting and see if the board remembers the CMOS settings.

Ok thanks a lot for the info.
It's probably as you say, that 4 pin jumper, should be the battery connection, and the other with three pins should be the one for selection.
I already have a replacement battery to solder, so I should be using that, but I haven't done repairs to the two broken tracks yet, and haven't resoldered the keyboard connector yet, so I can't try to boot.

Man, I use a minimum of 500kWh/mo in the summer. Luckily I just removed the pool last summer - with the pump running I'd be near 2MWh/ mo. 🤣

Nice, the ultimate VLB card in the 4MB configuration and still sealed. That's quite the find...

I was looking for ones for a long time... but the time has finally come and it also made a big dent in my wallet. But you just can't say no 🤣

Requests are also possible... /msg kixs

Worth a deep clean I'd say. Even the drive bay face plates are cool. 😀

That's the plan. Plastic is very yellow, but overall the case and internals are in perfect condition (there is even original protective film on the display panel).

Very nice. Look at all those socketed Chips, pun intended. 😀

Ah yes, the SIIG CyberPro serial card. Had a handful of those at one point. Not super useful in modern times, but still nice to look at.

Got myself an interesting CRT today, which seems to be EGA monitor. It's Thomson 4460D. It requires some adjustment; we'll see if it works at all. I kinda like the design. EGA CRTs seem to be rare - It's the first one I have seen for sale for a long time.

After receiving the monitor yesterday and hooking it up to my new and ugly 286 build, I can now happily announce that the monitor is fully functional and works in all modes (blue/green/orange/RGB). I'm happy to have finally gotten a proper EGA display. The garbage just required changing the position of two microswitches on my graphics card to become a rather nice and crisp image.
