Just won a Sony Vaio PCG-F801 Laptop.

Looks to be a cool little laptop, 12.1" 800x600 Display, K6 2+ 533 CPU. I think it has some sort of Trident VGA chip and not sure on the exact sound chip, but from my quick search is SB Compatible.

My HP Pavilion N3350 has a K6-2+ 55oM, Trident i7 AGP, and ESS Maestro-3 audio. HDA 800x600 resolution (stretched and cannot stay unstretched after the system reboots).

Yours might have an ESS Maestro of some sort. Only 1 way to find out.

Yet another 771&775 CPU pack in average condition. Pinless CPUs are the only ones that survive the recycling center treatment.

Cool, TX are quite nice to work with. Your bottom ISA slot has a pin that needs fluffing up in case you didn't notice.

2017: Basement full of ancient PC stuff, starting to go through it. 2021: Still starting, heh, many setbacks. So what's this BitWrangler guy's deal ??? >>> Taming the pile, specs to target?

Now I have to go through my motherboard collection and see if I have a board good enough to use this to it's fullest potential. Not even sure what SS7 boards I have 😀

That CPU is silky-smooth like it's never been used. Beautiful.

I have that motherboard in my Ultimate DOS/Win-3.11 build but it’s probably better suited for Win-95.

Where there any more where that came from ?
(and cheap or expensive?)

It came from an NOS lot that were bought as a group buy on CPU-World. The original seller had listed a tray of them first that someone paid too much for in order to resell at silly high prices. We got what he had left much cheaper. Mine cost me €55 shipped, a very low price for the fastest K6-3 chip 😀 Sadly they were all sold in the group buy.

I have my AMD K6-3+ 450 over clocked to 500mhz and 550mhz running stable.
You can probably get 600mhz out of yours.

oh that K6-3+ is so lovely! Nice find debs3759 😀

Yeah, we got lucky one CPU-World. Group buy handled by a gifted negotiator. The original seller knew that he could have got a lot more from speculators.

I might source a waterblock and hook it up to my chiller. See if I can get even higher (guessing 660 is possible with the right cooling)

Gonna need a block for the chipset and mosfets too to wind it all the way out to 140x6 🤣

You're going to have issues with condensation with a chiller. Might even get condensation under the heat spreader.

The smd capacitors under the heat spreader can and will get corrosion on and in-between the solder mounts if the condensation stays there.

I did experimenting with K6-2 CPUs and water-cooling and peltier cooling when they were current.

Even tried injecting coolant under the heat spreader and sealing it back up. That didn't end well.

With the peltier under a waterblock, it iced the CPU and surrounding area really quickly.

overkill, a socket A cooler is more than enough, even at 600Mhz

Just use a BIG copper heatsink and fan like this guy used.
