The case is a real beauty, don't you think? But needs some refurbishing 😉
Any idea what build year it might be - pre or post y2k?

BitWrangler wrote on 2021-07-05, 14:26:

I'd say about 2002.

I already stripped the case ...

Don't get mislead by the HW that was stuffed in.
((BTW the board the came with the case is a goner due to the capaitor plague))

I am not quite sure, but this PSU placement looks more like late P 1 or P II era to me.
The case even has some AT style elements like the I/O shield mounting.

looks perfect for a compact PII build.

seems like you can remove that blue bezel and leave it all beige 😁 that hole at the bottom is for the tab to fit in?

I would also guess that it is Pentium II (around '98/'99) era.
I might spraypaint it all beige or leave it bicolour, not decided yet.

The hole on the bottom is for a sliding cover that covers two USB 1 front connectors (you know, one of these annoying ones with all the cable ends seperate).

ooh that's nifty 😁

i have a case with blue bezel that comes off too, probably to ease customization but it would have been nicer if it had holes for airflow haha.

Systems like that were sold post the year 2000. Like my Acer F1 system.

I bought the following stuff for my ATX64

- SRam replacement module.
- TOLB 8701 Pal replacement.

The cool thing about the TOLB, is that it only eats 9mA instead of the original chip that eats around 25 to 30 mA.

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.
Those cakes make you sick....

I picked up a nice Iiyama Vision Master 17" from chinny22 (chinny22) yesterday - in need of a little retrobright and a repair of the DB15-HD15 cable that came with it but first tests look promising! I love the little LCD at the bottom showing you refresh rate etc 😀

I admit I had a little play with that as well as thought it was kinda cool.
But it's menu layout for actually changing a setting like position takes forever, still with any luck those are the set and forget type.

The Hercules Dynamite 128 looks beautiful from the back. Have been looking for this card, but they were all too expensive for me.

I took a group photo of all the graphics cards that arrived:

Whoa! That ASUS card on the top right has somewhat like a daughterboard on it? What card it is? Never seen that before in this kinda of GPU, thanks for sharing!

It looks like it might be a GeForce 7900 GX2. It's a sli card and if you were lucky enough to afford two of them then you were able to have a quad sli system.

Heya. So, for years I've been wanting to build a PC similar to what I'd had in the mid 90s but never quite had the money to really make the dream a reality, until now. I took a peek at local listings on ebay on a whim recently and to my utter surprise found someone selling a Pentium MMX 200, with 64gb of RAM, SB16 and an S3 Trio but it was just the computer itself, no other components, but for incredibly cheap ($240 AUD for the lot!) and even a short drive away so I jumped the hell on it and I'm still kinda tingling.

I then went sifting through the local thrift stores for monitors and I think I found a minor jackpot? https://www.cnet.com/products/benq-profession … ch-lcd-monitor/ for $8, 1024x768 native resolution TFT LCD, so it's 4:3. No CRT, but I've been looking around for 4:3 LCDs and they seem an absolute bastard to get these days. I hooked it up and surprisingly it seems to work great and looks perfect as far as I could tell from a brief test. When the screen it black the backlights are a bit weird but Duke Nukem 3D and Quake both looked amazing on it, I'm kinda blown away.

I didn't want to get anymore rubber dome keyboards, but found another KB-7953, this time in much better condition, lightly used but the box has seen better days. Didn't know it was named 'Preferred'? It came with a wrist wrest which I won't be using, and a PS/2 to AT adapter which is handy. Feels much better to type on than the previous KB-7953 that was battered by previous owner(s). The keys also have a textured sheen to it instead of completely smooth. Kinda like it now, but I still think the Gateway 2000 BTC dome over slider feels and sounds better.
