Finally got the controller port board for the Diamond Edge 3D thanks to a Vogons user that mentioned these were up for sale. Now all that's missing are the cables to connect the two but those should be much easier to source:

And also, following the principle that you can never have too many Socket 3 and Socket 7 boards I got these two at a local flea market, but haven't tried them yet:

Haven't seen that particular one, but I have a gold Amiga mouse. (it is just mirror finish gold plastic I think)

Its definitely not plastic. Its a metal shell fitting on top of the mouse. Its pretty heavy too.

Not the most exciting purchase, but I just got a new old stock HP cd12 CD-RW.

I was using a Gateway-branded HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B that I'd pulled from a non-working computer my friend had sitting in their garage. I mainly bought this replacement specifically to get a slower read speed to get quieter operation when spinning up discs (the Gateway drive was very loud with a read speed of 42x I believe). While it is much quieter in operation, the tray mechanism is noisy and grindy, and I've not been able to remedy it with white lithium grease (I think it's just plastic-on-plastic sound of a cheaper-make drive rather than the gearing or the sound of imminent failure). Still, it's quieter when reading discs, so that's the important thing.

Oddly enough, the drive itself does not match the packaging, which isn't terrible since it matches my floppy emulator, but I was kind of looking forward to the drive having the packaging's beige 90s aesthetic.

Cool, In the last while I've come across 3 burner boxes at thrifts, but none of them had the right drive in, they all had the drive that was taken out to install the burner.

Yeah, the drive is correct (because the packaging had never been opened), I guess it's just a later manufacturer run so it has a different front face plate from what I guess was the first-run drive on the box art.

Like you said though, my old drive is now in that box as the spare if I need it later.

The Asus A7M266 I ordered arrived in the mail today. The cpu cooler appears to have two different connections leading out of it and they were connected when I unwrapped the board. there seemed to be writing on the white one but it isn't readable. I need to now figure out what graphics card to put in. The only agp cards I have is the rage 128 pro and diamond media viper v550. I also have a geforce4 mx4000 pci card.

Theres always a crank on these forums isnt there? Someone else asked if it was actually silver or metal and because I dont know for a fact, I cant say. Someone else mentioned it could be shiny plastic like his , but it definitely isnt.

I have never seen a mouse like this so any info from people who know anything about it would be great. Just because the box says silversmith , doesnt mean its not some cheap fake company. Though doing some googling All i can find id this company's silverware cutlery

The CPU fan might have been rewired originally so that it took power off a drive cable and just took the sensor line to the motherboard, or had additional power connector for same purpose. (Boards around at the time may only have had 300mA or 5oomA capable fan headers, so if you stuck something powerful on it, it could do damage) Also they fit both s370 and socket A so may have had two power connectors for intel board vs AMD board wiring. Those orbs are notorious core crushers though, so be careful when refitting.

Silver items are usually stamped.

yeah I don't have a clue about connecting this cooler to the board.

I will benchmark it against my AMD k6-2+ rig @500 MHz, I think the P2 will win. I don't care too much about performance (but I want to be able to slow it down and I saw there were L1 and L2 options in the bios) Also, this is my first complete system and it feels very nice to have all cables etc and not have to use my temporary solutions and bad wiring haha.

The only thing is the dvd rom didn't work and the plastic shutter would stay shut. But I think I can fix this.

They come up on ebay uk quite regularly, they are silver plated ... I've seen them branded and non-branded... always that PS/2 Logitec mouse.

In your first photo, looking at the gap next to the mouse button, you can see the layer of plating on top of the regular beige plastic. Only plated, so probably not worth stamping with hallmarks.

I think this was (and still is) a popular past time for some Jewellers, although I think in this case this is/was an actual range for custom promo swag as I can see them for various other companies PMC, IBM and non-branded. I have a 24K USB drive somewhere for birthday a while ago customised by a goldsmith, only 2 gig so very dated now... case worth more than the chips probably these days... or not given current climate, so this still goes on.
