The I-O Data MIDI-KG/APW is an OEM Korg AG-3. Can you please upload/post the contents of the Music Navigator disc when you receive it?

Got myself an Evergreen AMD 5x86 for free. This is probably going into my Compaq Presario 433 as it's the only 486 I have that doesn't support 3v CPUs.

NYzNeXlm.jpg

It has some loose wires on left side. I'm guessing it used to have a fan of some sort. So I'll probably need to figure out a heatsink or a cooler of some sort before I use it — 5x86 chips get fairly hot during usage.

Thinking about getting that type of CPU myself after I upgrade the BIOS in my Packard Bell Pack-Mate 28 Plus to Phoenix BIOS 4.05.10 from the old firmware.com site since their BIOS supports AMD, Cyrix, and Intel CPUs across the board. The loose wires were used for the cooling fan to keep the CPU from overheating (someone must've taken it off when the bearing went out).

Donated some stuff to a local thrift store (mostly spare PC parts and a couple of empty cases). Picked up a pair of mice for cheap. Also got another Model M in the mail.

An IBM Model M made by Lexmark 52G9658. Seller's picture. It was actually pretty dirty and a lot of the key caps were dirty.

After using an air compressor to blow away the dust and removing + cleaning each individual keycap, it came out looking pristine!

NOS Arctic Cooling ATi silencer4 for my X800XT PE, cost about 5 EUR at local shop.

And I also grabbed a pair of heatpipe LGA775 coolers from Evercool (blue-led present ... check 😀) for about 7 EUR each. Hope they will be more quiet than intel's box coolers and will fit nicely into my not-so-wide mid 2000's tower case

bought this set of cases because the big one looked nice and had a mobo which seemed good (3 isa slots, 4 ram slots..). after looking at it it's an Abit BX6, with a PII 233mhz. Case is great except some rust i can probably remove

I have one of these. Its nice to have a photo of this module without the factory heatsink on it.

Wasn't originally planning on doing a Super Socket 7, but maybe I'll change my mind ... eventually. Don't even have a K6-2 or K6-3 to use with it, but I will have to get one. For now will likely just run a P233MMX at 100Mhz FSB.

I actually got all this for a few dollars back on Thursday, but was too busy overall to post any of it:
thrift_store_score_4-5-2018.jpg

-Logitech MouseMan PS/2 with serial adapter. I just had to pick it up for nostalgia reasons; these things were pretty commonplace back in my childhood, and I always found the big middle button (a REAL middle button, not a scroll wheel with click-down!) and the "bear claw" shape to be quite ergonomic, never mind that ball mice are frequently things not missed in this day and age of opticals.
-Sony PS2 SCPH-50000. Good news: it turns on and goes through the menus fine. Bad news: it's one of the "no FireWire" ones that means I can't network it with launch-era games that predated the Ethernet/HDD network adapter, and said adapter is not included. Also, the disc drive sure doesn't have an easy time reading game discs; I may have to open it up and tweak the laser pots.
-HP iPAQ hx2410. Looked almost mint, actually, barely used! But I can't test its functionality, as I haven't had an iPAQ charger or sync cable since I sold off my hx4700 about a decade ago, and the battery is, quite predictably, dead as a doornail. Here's hoping it can still hold a charge once I get my hands on the required cables.
-RS-232 DB-25 null modem adapter, with a DB-25f to DE-9m adapter. This will surely come in handy if I need to make PC -> Amiga file transfers over serial later.
-DE-15f to DE-9m adapter. I'm guessing this is some kind of VGA to RGBI (CGA/EGA) adapter? Not that I can even recall the last time I saw such a monitor in the wild...
-Box full of colorful HD floppy disks. Mac formatted from the factory, unsurprisingly for the iMac-esque translucent fruity colors. They all appear to be blank. One thing's for sure: when you've got old computers around, you can never have enough floppy disks.

Possibly, but more likely it just allows you to use a DE-9 VGA monitor (yes, that was a thing in the late 1980s) on a DE-15f VGA card.

I'll try.

According to this page, it was released in 1997:

https://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/article/9 … 0314/iodata.htm

Google Translate:

"In addition, the company will begin shipping an external MIDI sound module with Korg's synthesizer chipset (AI square synthesis system) in mid-April. The price is 32,800 yen for Windows version "MIDI - KG / WIN", and "Macintosh version" MIDI - KG / APW "29,800 yen. Communication karaoke software and sequence software are included in both Win and Mac versions, and sound entertainment software "SoundPlayer" comes with Win version only."

Based on the box, I expect to find a copy of eMagic Sounddiver on the CD...

Yeah these adapters are meant for multiscan monitors, both that I own came with such an adapter to do just what you describe: they allow a vga card to be connected to the monitor's DB9 input port. It just a simple wire adapter.

Great mobo, and it supports K6+ CPUs... more interesting is that I dont know much motherboards with so many ISA+PCI+AGP

The large number of expansion slots, positioning of the CPU socket not being in the way of all of the PCI slots (thereby preventing dual Voodoo2's), all in an AT form factor are the primary reasons I wanted this exact motherboard. Looking forward to making use of it. 😀

Well, I just watched, because I couldn't afford to participate, as an, 'as new, K5 PR200', from Indiana went for $415 on eBay, which is about £295, to which you'd have to add ~£63 in import charges and postage, so about $504 / £358 to my door here in the UK.

For a processor best suited to Windows 95, that's just mad, has to be a collector, and it will likely gather dust in a vacuumed sealed bag, if I owned it, then it would have actually been used.

So I just bought a K5 PR166 from Italy, which including Postage has cost me just $28.20, or £20.02 in real money.

Much more sensible.

I don't know what the hell it is! It has a short cable and an 8-pin connector (3-3-2). No markings on it anywhere. 😕
