Won an Intel i486 DX4-100 OverDrive on eBay last night for a little over $20 after S&H charges applied. A couple of bent pins, but I can fix that.

Just bought this box for 10€ at Ebay...you see the reason. Hope it still works 😀

Wow, is it truly worth that much? I should buy that DX4 available to me locally for 2 bucks..

I also got me a new old stock Made In China brand ESS Solo-1 for $4 which turned out to be an ES1946S card instead of an ES1938S (although I have a used one of those in the mail as well).

The iDX4 is an excellent chip. If only it would run at 133...

I actually have an AMD 5x86, but I still feel like my VLB system could be more stable with an Intel DX4. Also, maybe this chip would allow me to use my SIS471-based motherboard that refuses to work with 5x86 instead of a slower Opti895-based one.

Yes, 486 is clearly an obsession of mine at this point.

I don't think it's a bargain, but it's not too much either. Regular AMD and Intel DX4s tend to go for about 5-10 bucks in Russia, and I don't think I see a lot of WB models. So in this case I'm only overpaying for shipping costs.

Yes, 486 is clearly an obsession of mine at this point.

I have to re-test the Intel-DX4 but from what I remember it is faster than the AMD-DX5 at the same clock speed. Can't comment on the stability aspect but overall the Intel part seems superior. The Pentium line unfortunately sabotaged the dreams of a 133 or 166mhz version of the Intel486 core.

Strange...asked the seller to pack the Voodoo separately and not to throw it in the box with the other cards. He answered that he just tested the card and its still working 😎

I don't think Intel DX4 is faster than DX5. There are some benchmarks on the forum already, BTW. If you look at the "overall performance" chart in the second post, the AMD comes out around 20% faster.

Still, DX4 seems to be native to all VLB Socket 3 boards that support 3v CPUs, while AMD 5x86 is mostly supported by PCI boards.

I regularly see DX4-100 for around $10-$15 ($15-$25 shipped). $2 is a great price 😀 Cheapest I have seen is around $15 shipped.

As it only has a 3x multiplier, against 5x86 at 4x, you could try running at 120 or 150.

I have to re-test the Intel-DX4 but from what I remember it is faster than the AMD-DX5 at the same clock speed.

5x86 should be up to one third faster than DX4 at the same fsb. I would worry about my motherboard if a DX4-100 ran faster than a 5x86-133

As someone who never really bothered with Voodoos due to having a very small PC game collection (small enough to not contain any games that would benefit from Glide), that's a really lucky find. If I spotted a Voodoo in a cheap boxed lot sale like that one but in the US, I totally would've bought it.

If it really does work, I'd put some heatsinks on the chips as suggested in this thread here that way you don't risk losing it from overheating.

It does. I have a sample that posts at 150 but won't boot. Otherwise most SK096 work fine at 120/133MHz (2x60 or 2x66 FSB).

I used to own a GeForce 2 Ultra in the early Athlon XP days, after owning a Voodoo 3 and before moving onto a Radeon 8500. Never owned a GeForce 2 GTS though. Seems to be a 32MB version. Amazing how quickly this card obsoleted the GeForce 256, which obsoleted the TNT2, all in the matter of what - 12 months? 6 month GPU cycles were crazy.

The reason why they did that was because certain games were coming out that required TnL since the older cards (TNT2 and lower) didn't have TnL whatsoever. I have a Riva TNT2 M64 (ASUS brand) and it's great to some extent, but some games work with TnL graphics cards only, which those games are going to be played on my HP Pavilion 7955 after backing up the data that's on there and give the data to the original owner(s).

Also, I've received the sound card lot that I bought last week (fast shipping as well). Going to install the CT2740 with the DB50XG in either my K6-2/300 system or Packard Bell Pack-Mate 28 Plus and keep the CT1740 as a spare for my Packard Bell if the sound card that's in it right now goes out again.
