It's a 1x CD-ROM using a Sony proprietary interface furnished by the card.

Feh, it's one of the most easily hacked and wildly expandable consoles out there. 100% software moddable, you don't even need to take it apart. Wasted potential not to, IMHO.

You can hook up a USB hard drive, keyboard, mouse, run stuff directly from the HDD, region-unlock everything, play Gamecube games without an original GC controller, play Wii shop games at all now that the shop has been shut down, etc.

Lots of original homebrew & demoscene stuff out there for it too, not just ports & emulators.

Pretty sure that is just the controller card for that drive. I have one of those cards and tried to do some research on it a while ago. If I remember correctly, that card is for decoding CD audio because the drive that goes with it didn't have the needed circuitry to do so.

It should just work with the Sony CD-ROM drivers and MSCDEX.

Like I said. I have a RaspberryPI for emulation, and I like to keep the Wii in original state. Just because I can, does not mean that I will. To me it does not matter how easy it is, and I already have Free MC Boot for my Ps2 (Ps2-Phat with Network/HDD Adaptor). That is way easier to do, yet I never really use the emulators on that console anyway. Like I said. I have an RPI-3 and I even have an OrangePI-Plus-2 if I want one more emulator machine. Mostly it is only for SNES gaming anyway. And I have all other type of hardware that I need. Amiga500's. Yes. One stock and two heavy modded 500's (One is my 500-Desktop, the other with standard case and 030-50 accelerator) and one Amiga600, 2 x C64. Then I have a 286, 3 x 486's and a P1 for MS Dos 6.22. Finally I have a P3 and a couple of SocketA and Socket478 for Win98.

So... No need for softmodding the Wii at all.

Aquired a ZTECH ZPVGA 8-bit ega/vga card to use as a spare for my XT-Turbo.

Just when I thought the local recycling center had gone stale I got this lot for 8€. The cards are as follows:

PCI64 (AudioPCI)
2 x USB card (1.0/2.0)
Creative CT7120
Radeon 8500 64Mb
Radeon 9000 pro 128Mb

The Creative card is just a curiosity, don't think I'll ever find a use for it.

took my chances at a big lot again mainly just for these two:

Terratec Profimedia with OPL3 including the Terratec WaveSystem SCW001/2 board
and a pretty generic BTC 1817DW with Opti 82C931 and I guess the "W" is the designation for the wavetable parts actually being populated.

I hope they work x3

A lot of people claim NOS, which is rather used and abused than anything at this point. Unless OEM system companies were going to be using that board and CPU combo.

Having had to sift through tons of boards in large hauls over the years I have found one of the dead giveaways is the keyboard port of all things. Mostly because it is exposed more to the outside environment than the rest of the board. I/O ports as well, but in your case you just have the keyboard port. It's a fuzzy photo, but that keyboard connector looks very clean so if it's not NOS it's mint from what I can tell.

Fully agree. People do this because electronics don't visibly wear, so you can easily say "NOS" if it still looks new - even if it was used for hundreds or thousands of hours. And it's of course fully believable that people back then bought this stuff for lots of money just to never use it. 😉

I ignore "NOS" when it comes to electronics. If the price is right, I buy it. But I don't pay extra because someone claims NOS. I better buy something used but tested instead.

Normally I agree, their claim is found in storage never deployed and the price was $50 which is outstanding for ss7

What I noticed was no staining on the fan or heatsink including molex, used would have staining from dirt and grime.

A good example is this lovely Mach64 VLB card I found in a box. I was so confident it would work because it looked mint and fresh.

Oh, how reality sets you straight though...

After a good cleaning and inspection still nothing obvious. So being too tied up to go any further, Vogons member Deksor got the card for the price of shipping. Hopefully one day it will live again.

It is still a great find! Hope it will be just a bad RAM chip or something that can be fixed. These (or even better VRAM ones) go for a small fortune on eBay. I mean literally hundreds $.

Why do people have still unboxed stuff from the 90s? I have no idea.
