Currently I'm struggling to get refresh rates over 75Hz but that's maybe my Radeon 9250

I might source a waterblock and hook it up to my chiller. See if I can get even higher (guessing 660 is possible with the right cooling)

You're going to have issues with condensation with a chiller. Might even get condensation under the heat spreader.

When I used the water chiller before, I found that I only got condensation if I set it lower than 10C, so that's where I'll set it.

The temperature you start getting condensation at is called the "dew point". It depends on the temperature of your room and the relative humidity. A dew point of 10 °C is common in climate environments humans feel comfortable in (50%r.h., 20°C room temperature), but if you have hot days with high humidity in the summer, you might have 80%r.h. at 30°C, which would result in a dew point around 26°C.

The only thing you can know for sure: Unless you are in an extremely wet room, the dew point always is below room temperature, so you don't risk condensation with the chiller set to keep the water at room temperature (or just a couple of degrees below room temperature).

I'm pretty cautious about voltages when overclocking. Don't want to kill a chip that might be worth a relative fortune to someone when I start selling my collection in the future 😀 Will raise the voltage by a small amount though, as long as I can keep it cool. Never know, I might break a record for non extreme cooling on hwbot 😀

Thrift haul... there's still stuff in the thrifts... well not this one now... okay, I left a couple of modems... yes I am supposed to be rationalising and clearing out, but I am missing a lot of bits and pieces to make things whole or make balanced keepers...

Top left SMC 16bit ISA 10bT NIC, top right, Rage 128 all in wonder? Bottom left 3c905B, bottom right, 2 assorted bags of RAM. 1 bag seems to have 1GB DDR-400, 512MB DDR-400, 256MB PC133, 8MB 72 pin, 4Mb 72 pin. The other, 256MB PC133, the twins of the 8 and 4 in the other bag, and possibly a pair of 16MB 72, gotta look up the chips. Happy about pretty much all of those but the 4MBs 🤣 SMC has a chip inside the ROM socket, between it's legs, not inserted, dunno yet if that's cache or flash or what.

Edit2: Ohhhhkay, it's an 8kilobyte by 8 SRAM on the SMC, it's an EtherEZ, what does EZ stand for but everyone's favorite friend (Next to Clippy) Plug'n'Play.

Got this Cyrix 486dlc recently, just because the packaging was different from what I usually see in case of these CPUs. Is this packaging actually anything special?

Got tracking on my three pieces of new in box GF 6200 PCI from eBay ... I had limited pieces of 3D PCI cards, and wanna put them in close to period systems, rather than in stuff that can only take PCI, like an Atom board I've got, and a duron and s370 board with onboard gfx and no AGP. So being a later low end card, I'm kinda moving it a generation earlier to use in place of something hard to get or $$$. I'd call these notional builds "trans-millennial" I guess, a year or two either side, DX7, DX8 lower res, DX9 for less action more casual titles like SIMs or something. Should be a'ight on quake 3 engine stuff, which there was a lot of around at about then. The atom, I might use in a compact form factor table top arcade unit build, or a kind of console unit I can stand a monitor/TV on top of. (With a bit of backward angle maybe, to make it more arcadey) ... hmmm... maybe coulda bought another 2 for +2 monitors each for desktoppy stuffs (Because everyone really wants to run 6 monitors off one beast, that's why 🤣 )

edit: just remembered I had this weird hutchy bit with a hinged lid, that was on a computer desk I got years back, it was a PITA because it put your mouse space higher, dunno whether it was an owner add on or what, but I took that off, I bet it's still lurking around somewhere. That I think might make a good base for a table top console/cab with some surgery ... if I can remember where the friggin' thing is.

Well you know the expression "It's either feast or famine", I was expecting these the other side of the weekend but here they are with bonuses. 2 Slotkets, one is MS6905 1.1 the other is CPU Card Ver 1.0, which I think is the Startech one. Then there's a powerleap PL370/T with a celly 1.1A in it, and a Lin-Lin convertor socket. CPU in the slotket is a coppermine celly 700, the loose one is a bonus 866 PIII. Then I got a powerleap HSF, Cooler Master HSF, two socket 7ish looking HSF, loose sink, loose fans, a lifetime supply of heatsink clips, and the other sockety looking thing appears to be a backside thermistor for CPU temp reading.

If I'm not mistaken that CT1740 seems to have a v4.05 DSP? In that case, it should be free of any MIDI hanging note bug!

Yes, it does have a CT1705 V405

It is just about as annoyingly noisy as I remember it from my 486 PC though.

The usual stuff: Core 2 Quad Q6700 from China. Interesting to see how C2Q and C2E prices have doubled and tripled in the past 2 years as Chinese stockpiles started to run out.
