I agree with you meljor, the main difference between vanilla mmx and tillamook is that the second has some oboard cache
How can you say that the l2 cache on tillamook is working if it doesn't show up un speedsys, it should show just as it does with k6 plus cpu, don't you think so?
On your screenshots the results for l2 cache (that is the one on the mb) are the same for k6-2, pentium mmx and tillamook.
While the cpu cache gets correctly detected on k6-x+ cpu.
Could you do a benchmark with vanilla mmx and tillamook at the same frequency with quake?
If it shows different numbers cache is detected, so speedsys is wrong, otherwise cache isn't used despite of cpu modding.
Thank you.

No i'm sorry but you are getting it wrong.

Normal mmx: L1 on cpu + L2 on motherboard
Tillamook mmx (MOBILE!) cpu: L1 on cpu but somehow L2 on motherboard does not work with this cpu on most DESKTOP motherboards
Tillamook mmx modded: L1 on cpu + working L2 on some desktop motherboards, just as normal mmx! Tillamook can be clocked higher as normal mmx due to fabrication proces.

K6-2: L1 on cpu + L2 on motherboard
K6-3 (or k6-2+/ k6-3+ also) L1 on cpu, L2 on cpu and therefor The L2 on motherboard becomes L3!

So, if you can see L2 on speedsys with a Tillamook it is working fine.

The only practical difference between a normal mmx and a mobile mmx cpu is the fact that it can clock higher. It can go higher and also has a higher multiplier which makes it more interesting.

Hello there,
the tillamook cpu is a perfect last upgrade for the socket 7 systems which do not post with the k6-2 or k6-3 core like my qdi titanium IIIB.

Hello amijim,

there are also some boards which work somehow with the K6-2 (maybe detected as K5 or something) but won't do anything with the Tillamook.

Yes and you can mod the BIOS for better support of K6-2 on really old boards, that weren't avare of K6 let alone K6-2. And the CXT core of K6-2 has 6X multiplier. That way I successfuly ran K6 at 400 MHz (6x66) on old mobos with 430HX chipset (Zida Tomato 5DHX and MSI 5128). No need to mod CPU or board itself, but still I expected tillamook to be quite faster than K6-2 in games clock-to-clock.

There is no bios support and that board seems to only provide cpu voltage as low as 2.8v? That's way to high for any k6-3 cpu and might kill it. I guess it is much safer to use another type of board.

You can use biospatcher (http://www.rom.by/) to add cpu support and being a TX board, look exactly what your voltage regulator is. Maybe there will be another undocumented voltage settings. As far as good cooling goes, I had no problems running K6-2 (originally rated for 2.4V) at 2.8 Volts in the old HX mobo. But of course not in really long terms like for weeks or months.. definitely less is better here.

They say (https://web.archive.org/web/20080222161300/ht … upport/f_tx.htm):

Q. What is the highlight features of QDI TX Motherboard Titanium B Series?
Titanium B series implement SpeedEasy 3.0 QDI innovative technology.
SpeedEasy 3.0 includes new features in addition to SpeedEasy 2.1.
PowerEasy - switching regulators provide the core voltage from 2.0v to 3.5v.

but you have to check yourself

Just for reference, the tillamook doesn't work on Epox EP-MVP3G5 (and probably EP-MVP3G-M or EP-MVP3G2), with the latest bios (vp3c0c21), but it works on Epox EP-51MVP3E-M with latest bios (vp300411).

With mod I suppose?

Yes, I did the yellow and red pin mod, it's the very same cpu I benchmarked some time ago, I also tried to disable the cache from bios, it just seems this mb doesn't like it, probably it miss the right microcode?

I'd need your help.
Since noone of my ss7 mb are working with the tillamook.
The guy whom I asked for help nees to check for Tillamook support in this BIOS, I also need to know its CPUID.
Can you run a CPU Identification utility, like the Chkcpu tool, on your Tillamook and send me the output? Thanks!

I am re-organizing every room upstairs and right now cannot even reach my gear 😐 Maybe someone else can give you the cpuid. I really hope you can alter biosses for this cpu, that would be awesome!

Thank you anyway 😊
I will try every socket 7 mb I have, but if noone boots with tillamook there will be no progress.
I actually can try: Abit PX5 (Intel 430TX), Fullyes VX mb, Asus p55t2p4-311 (Intel 430HX), do you have any memory if the cpu works on any of that mb?
Thanks

According to CPU world the CPUID is 0581h (5.8.1 decimal).

Before the modding on the cpu I tried a few TX boards and had zero luck, also any Asus board (with or without mod) I had no luck so far. that's why I hope you can alter a bios because I would love to try one of my P5A and P5A-B boards.

I have some bad news, according to the guy who checked the bios the newer EpoX has the same microcodes of the older one, so it makes no sense that it works in one but doesn't in the other... the only other thing I can guess is that my cpu is damaged, but I didn't mess with it after the wiring the pins and it was working before...

Check again on the working board is not an option?

Nope unlucky, because I sold it 😢

Maybe use a normal k6-2 or mmx and disable L2 in bios. Then check if it will boot with the Tillamook.
