My Toshiba Portege 3020CT has a 300MHz part in it :

I restored the mods (both bridges + de 4x mod bridge) and went back at it on the Gigabyte Ga-5aa. Seems the 4x multi works on this board by setting the 2x jumpers, on the 4x settings it boots at 2x...

Anyway, i set it at 4x 100mhz fsb that way with 2,2v using a pretty normal small socket 7 cooler. It worked fine straight away and speedsys gave me the best scores up to now. Even with fastest timings for memory in bios the system worked very well. I used 1x 128mb sdram pc100 CL2.

After this i grabbed a harddisk which had Windows ME on it. Letting it start, find all the drivers plug N play etc. with no issues.

It also completed 3dmark99 and all the cpu benchmarks within Everest. With a voodoo1 it scored about 35% more in 3dmark compared to a score i once did on an Asus TX97-E with a 233mmx. Cpu 3dmarks even nearly doubled.

Also in Everest it nearly doubled the scores of the 233mmx in most tests. Compared to some old numbers i had from an Asus P3B-F p2-300 66fsb it fell quite short. Amazing what a step forwards the p2 really was!

Anyway, it runs fine and seems stable at 400mhz, if it is not (longer term) i think 0.1v more and a Athlon XP cooler will do the trick. I can probably go higher as well.

I REALLY like that it can finally be done even if the difference isn't extremely big.
Small comparisson modded cpu vs unmodded cpu on the Ga-5ax, 128mb sdram, voodoo1:

4x 100fsb with L2: 1350 3dmarks 2653 cpumarks
3,5x 110fsb without L2: 1205 3dmarks 2420 cpu marks

Some more testing:

Asus TXP4: no post (with or without mods)
Asus P5A: no post (with or without mods)
Aopen AX59Pro : no post (with or without mods)
Gigabyte Ga-5ax: works fine with L2 after mod, finishing the same benchmarks as with the Ga-5aa but ONLY with the one bridge (with the tape in between). with both bridges it does not even post.

Most of the boards in my collection are Asus boards but unfortunately all of them do not seem to recognise the Tillamook. Only the P55T2P4 worked somehow but got issues later (read post above). None of the other Asus boards worked and most do not even post. Must be bios support problem, maybe someone can mod these?

BTW i also ran a K6-2 cpu on all of the boards to make sure the board was still functioning before testing the Tillamook. Most boards have the latest bios version.

Maybe your other bridge was incorrect OR the board misuses the other PIN?

It came out of the Ga-5aa working fine and also afterwards it worked fine on that board. I had to use a second cpu (with the single mod done) to get it to work on the Ga-5ax.
Also the P55t2p4 started giving problems with the full mod and worked fine before with half the mod in place, so maybe the 2nd (smaller) bridge is not needed and may only give problems on some boards?

funny thing about it is the fact that they are both ss7 boards from Gigabyte with also the same Ali V chipset and chipset revision. The Ga-5aa is a baby AT and the ga-5ax is the ATX version, that's it.

Is it safe to conclude that the Tillamook mods won't work properly for all S7 and SS7 motherboards?

I agree. I think it is safe to say that if the cpu posts without the mod it will probably work with the L2 too once modded.

In my case the mod seems more reliable/compatible with just one bridge connected, don't know why and would like to hear what others experience.

From what I've read, there are 3 bridges in total. Which single bridge worked best for you?

I added some color to the picture and the 4x multi mod..

Testing an unmodded cpu just to see if the board will post is imho a good first step.
After that I think yellow is essential to make L2 work, red is optional (if yellow alone doesn't work or not work right.) en the blue one is the 4x multi mod.

I am still searching if there is also a mod unleashing the 4,5x multiplier of the 300mhz parts..
Anybody cleverer then me maybe knows a way.
That way the 300mhz model could be used at full speed too..

I think these chips are already wired to 4.5
Try to leave all BF jumpers on the motherboard open.

I tested my 300 MHz Tillamook on Powerleap PL-MMX Pro Voltage adapter on a TMC PAT54PV Socket 5 VLB board and it just works.
The FSB can be configured for 80 MHz which results in a 360 MHz CPU clock... this must be the fastest VLB system ever 🤣

hmm i wonder where my newley aquired aopen ap5tc tx board falls in compatibility with tillamook. judging by the tx track record on here not that great. i guess im banking on the features this board presents judging by the switching power regulator and offering at the lowest 1.3vcore upto 3.5 and multi's from 1.5-5x. looks like i need to order me a chip.

*edit well as per latest bios looks like at most they added k6-3 support but limited to the usual tx max of the 83fsb. dont have much to loose all i would have left if all else fails is the proven pc chips m573dma33 thats proven on here.
