MDK A3D patch!?

Apparently, back in August 1998 (http://members.optusnet.com.au/kirben/aug011998.html), Interplay released an Aureal 3D patch for MDK. I'm dumbfounded by this, I never knew anything about it. Unfortunately, it seems to have disappeared off the face of the Internet. 🙁
Is anyone still in possesion of it? Has anyone ever tried it?

I did a little search. Here is what I could find:

File names:
mdka3d3d.zip (Direct3D version)
mdka3d95.zip (Win 95 version)

They were hosted on the A3D.com FTP server. The only mirror I've found is on 3D Gaming World. They are still up, but their FTP is down (or not completely down, but closed for anonymous access).

File links to: ftp://ftp.3dgw.com/patch4/mdka3d3d.zip

Maybe try and contact the owner behind the site? It's a longshot, but maybe he has access to the FTP server files somehow.

Stiletto, want to work your Google magic on this tough nut?

Sure thing! I'll check it out.

Dropped 3dgw.com a line, they're going to check a backup CD or two (for which we are very grateful. 😀 )

I have some other things I'm checking too.

Cheers mate 😀

It would be another great find if it showed up (after digging up the PureVex DEMO and patches to Big Scale Racing among other things). The Vogons community striking again.

This is another mysterious patch, I'd love to play MDK with A3D. 😀

These are the only useful bits I could find though:

I personally have a copy of MDK with 100% complete A3D (it sounds
awesome!) Shiny had nothing to do with this "patch," it was Interplay
OEM, and I highly doubt that Shiny would say such a thing as we were
never contacted by them about MDK, hence there was no collaboration,
and thus it could not have been unsatisfactory. I would be very
interested in the name of the person you talked to at Shiny, and
whether or not he / she had any clue as to the nature of the A3D
implementation. An A3D patch is done for MDK, it is completely up to
Interplay and Shiny if they wish to release it.

Another key person to ask would be David Gasior from Aureal (3DGW interview here)

And result from querying mdka3d3d.* -- excuse me for quoting from an abandonware site, but this seems to indicate that the patch really does/did exist:

It's pretty obvious from later posts online (can't find ATM) that these patches were later "retracted", so to speak. Definitely Interplay/Shiny never had or wanted anything to do with it. Patch disappears from Aureal within a few months (see Wayback Machine)

Pinged 3dgw again just now to see if they've had a chance to check their backup discs in the last two weeks.

Also, Skip never answered my email. (He was hired to be Aureal's "evangelist" amongst gamers/press/whatnot.) 🙁

3dgw says to please be patient while they search. I'll post when there's news, positive or negative.

Do eet, how did you manage to get in contact with the guy anyway?

3dgw? The site's still up, ergo the email address still does something. Seemed like a natural conclusion.

But yeah, over the years I seem to have a knack for talking to people online (and off!)

Weird for a first post. I assume this is regards to the pcgamingwiki project?

You owned him. How could you figure out that?
In fairness, it was me that was looking for dat patch since early january of this year.
I'm moderator there anyway, please to meet you.

REALLY hats off. Congratulations.
And if you'd like a -hopefully!- more stable file hoster.. well, that's it

"How could you figure out that?"
I already knew PCGamingWiki was looking for the file because it turned up mentioned in search results when looking for the file. Otherwise there hasn't been many requests for these files lately.
http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/MDK#Audio_settings
It seemed pretty likely that a brand new account and their first post here might be from that community.

Well, no congratulations are in order unless it ends in results. But okay, thanks.

As for file hoster, we seem to have that covered, though it's still mainly just drivers it does have some obscurities: http://www.vogonsdrivers.com
But yeah, PCGamingwiki will get this if it happens.

Who knows why people will respond to some but not others. Maybe my English is better, maybe a second unrelated requester pushed them to respond, maybe the timing was just right, maybe I was more polite. *shrug* Maybe talking about pursuing this file will turn away all possible helpers.

You know, you could go through all this effort just to find out the patch doesn't work well and that's why places stopped offering it online 😀

No new news to report, I am trying to remain patient. Sometimes these quests take years. 🙁
We may need to try additional sources at some point.

No, but thanks for reminding me. It's been nine months, so I've sent another ping.
