I wil try it. Can you give links of this board and products that you mentioned for me (ASUS P3B-F Rev 1.04)? Is possible to use Gravis Ultrasound on YKhwong DOSBOX with games (I installed it but it is impossible to use on games like blood)?

BTW, Vetz, what's the OS you run on this hardware? I wonder what Windows XP will look like. Curiosity 😀

And FC-PGA -> slot 1 adaptors are not that easy to find (I don't use e-bay). I'm still trying to find one. Most are PGA only.

Umm, then, will you please give some websites to me?

Which motherboard do you want to find?

I'm running Windows 98SE. I had plans to install Windows XP as dual boot, but never got around to it. I will upgrade the HD when I get time and then I'll do it properly from the start 😀

Don't see why you can't buy on Ebay. I helped Alucard86 to find some adapters two weeks ago and I found several slot 1 -> FC-PGA adapters for low prices.

There are several ASUS P3B-F's Ebay atm for prices at or below 50 USD. The revisions you'd want is 1.03 and 1.04:

Boxed, 1 euro, Germany (unknown revision): http://www.ebay.de/itm/ASUS-P3B-F-Motherboard … =item35d296e6bf
From Italy (unknown revision) : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASUS-P3B-F-Pentium- … =item2a37f347a0
From Hong Kong (rev 1.03): http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-P3B-F-Pentium-II … =item20dccc35c1
From USA, 2 ISA slots (unknown revision): http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-P3B-F-Slot-1-ATX … =item2eceb1a5f5

FC-PGA slotklets:
Brand new, USA: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Slocket-III-Socket-37 … =item2ecea08b72
UK: Asus slotklet with 1ghz celeron: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Celeron-1Ghz-1000-M … =item43c624e4b7
Brand new, USA: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HIGH-QUALITY-SERVICES … =item3f1b1f55f0
Brand new boxed MSI adapter, Germany: http://www.ebay.de/itm/CPU-Adapter-fur-Slot1- … =item43c6432346
Gigabyte 6R7, Germany: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Gigabyte-GA-6R7-GA-6R7 … =item4ad10cd123

I also know jwt27 here on Vogons picked up 2 P3B-F boards recently that he wasn't too keen on keeping, maybe he could be a source?

Delivery is too expensive, post services here sux ... Probably DHL would be better, if I get it from Ebay.de

Last thing I purchased from a guy in the K6plus forum, never arrived. It's like ... 60$ or so - nothing that stressful, but anyway - I can't rely on our post services. Things get lost, stolen, etc.

So I just browse local computer forums - there's a plenty of hardware at insanely low price, but ... that slot 1 FCPGA adapter, and some other fancy stuff (like k6-3+ CPUs or top grade super socket 7 boards) are absent.

Patience is my answer to that situation 😀 And to the The Serpent Rider too - the build he wants, except for the Awe64 Gold and Voodoo 5, can be bought here (and there in Korea, I believe) for like ... 50$ total - it's insane to give 500$+

I understand your points that crappy delivery service is just a waste of money since it has huge risk of disappearing products. I heard this kind of incidents from other people. What do you think about purchasing Windows 98 SE CD (English or Korean version) in my country?

Note: The Intel's internet PCI card seems to be existed in Korea.

I already wrote it somewhere in this topic - I bought a full retail unopened box with Windows 98SE for 3$. Spending more than 15$ on it is a waste.

If you are to build your PC by May-June - wait and check ebay and local forums.

I would not buy Korean edition - you want it for games, not for office PC. English version will be more compatible, I suppose.

I think so, Space Cowboy. Even unofficial SPs are not compatible with the Korean version as well 😢 .

Which is better for Voodoo 5500 (AGP or PCI ver)? Plz give links for AWE 64 Gold, Voodoo 5500.

AGP is far significantly higher bandwidth. If you actually want to play games at all, PCI video cards should generally be completely avoided. PCI bus gets like 33 MB/sec sustained transfer speeds, and AGP 4x I think is something like 250 MB/sec. Someone correct me here I don't know the exact figures, but it's a really big difference.

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=11&card2=10 (Comparison between AGP and PCI for Voodoo 5500)

Note: Diablo 1&2 are have high performance when you play with glide supported GPUs like Voodoo 5500 while playing with Geforce GPUs has crappy framerate.
It is because they are absolute glide supported games (poor performance for Direct-3D) 😐. There is a way to improve performance for Geforce (GlideWrapper)

if you have a choice, agp is definitely the way to go. but if you are already having a native pci card (with more video ram), you can definitely play games upto 2001(maybe later too) smoothly. however there maybe 5% to 20% hit compared to similar model agp cards depending upon the game code.

I will go with AGP GPUs since they have better featuers than PCIs (http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=11&card2=10).

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=voodoo+5 … 00+agp&_sacat=0 ( The Voodoo 5500 AGP seems to be hard to find as well as any others. Can you recommend other GPUs that enables to play Glide and Direct-X powered games?)

If you hadn't found a good ODD option yet, try this one- a new Samsung CD-RW / DVD reader. I just finished a pair of legacy builds and got one of these for each. Brand new with Amazon warranty ... IDE interface and 100% compatible. They simply work great and at under twenty bucks- they beat the questionable 'used' stuff on ebay every time.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002EAAS8S/r … 0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'll add my agreement for the ASUS P3B-F (Rev 1.04 if you can find a good one) as they offer good Coppermine support- otherwise, rev 1.03 will support a P3 (to 600mhz) - If you like Intel, you can still get a brand new one for $40 on Amazon... Intel SE440BX-2 that sports two ISA slots, 4 PCI and a AGP. A tough board that just does the job- nothing flashy though- just a trooper.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009K779I/r … 0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have one of these in my 95c machine and it does just fine. I have a P3B-F (1.03) in my 98se box running a P3 600 - chose the 1.03 over my rev 1.04 board since it had an ISA slot and that was important for me and my Awe64 gold... both mbs are of course 100mhz FSB.

I have had several mb purchases on ebay go bad because so many sellers believe that everything in a box must be "new open box" when in reality it is often not functional in one respect or another. Also, "tested" is a relative term on ebay... enough said.

Just my two cents-

Thanks for givnig another useful information. Is this motherboard supports P3-S Tualatin 1.4Ghz (for speed issue)? Which GPU is suitable for me (my PC is mainly focused on late 90's games(3D) like Diablo, Starcraft)?

Links for Rev 1.04:

www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=sea ... 4+(Amazon)

I am gonna use Tualatin 1.4Ghz (with socket adapter): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tualatin-P-IIIs-1-4GH … =item417b1c3fc1

Links for Vortex 2 (Mau1wurf1997 recommended me this soundcard with using PCI only boards since it is easy to find): http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=Intel+Pr … d+card&_sacat=0

Links for Intel Pro-100 PCI: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from … Condition=3%7C4

Links for Windows 98 SE English Version (brand new and used): http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw= … Condition=3%7C4

I want 'em (include others like SDRAM, HDD, etc) as refundable and trustworhty products(new or used as boxed with full contents) with quick delivery services for just in case (e.g. the board is dead). I also like you to search for them on Amazon as well. My god, finding case and CRT monitor is pain in my ass! (I need your help 😵 ). Is there any benefit for using CRTs instead of modern LCDs for this retro gaming rig?

Note: I'm also worrying for purchasing components on Ebay like you since the sellers are main factor on this site rather than buyers. However, some products are extremely hard to serach on Amazon 😒 .

I have a 1.03 as well and I'm running a Tualatin 1.4ghz in it. I've also tested a P3 800 which worked fine. So I'm afraid that your statement is incorrect.

I would ofc try and get 1.04 if possible (I don't know the changes though), but if you can't, then 1.03 is a safe choice. Stay away from the earlier revisions (1.01 and 1.02) if you want to run with Tualatin.

I use this setup with Pentium III-S 1.4GHz and 1024MB CL2 RAM and it's very quick and stable.

They where also two other different revision of that Asus P3B-F motherboard..

One came with three ISA slots. (was the first version)
One came with two ISA slots
On came with one ISA slot (the latest version)

I only dont like when it would booting a pin modded tualatin 1400mhz, that is shows up as Pentium II at 1400mhz..
Iam only using this board as slow windows 98 se rig with a pentium III 550mhz installed.

Yeah, you are right. I saw these things on Ebay and Amazon as you mentioned (rev 1.04 version). For Ebay, there are two ISA slots board and one ISA slot board while Amazon has same things as Ebay. How shoud I do with my PC to recognize the pinmodded P3-S Tualatin 1.4Ghz?

Just to inform that board revision has nothing in common with the amount of ISA slots. The ASUS P3B-F were sold in multiple configurations:

The ASUS P3B-F is a unique moniker in the mobo world. To the best of my knowledge, it's the first motherboard "model" to (confusingly) house multiple slot configurations. Huh? The P3B-F actually ships in a few different varieties! There's a 5 PCI/2 ISA/1 AGP version, a 6PCI/1 ISA/1 AGP version, and a 6 PCI/1 AGP version (no ISA for you!).

Source

Here is a P3B-F v1.04 with 2 ISA slots:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Asus_P … _with_2_ISA.jpg

How shoud I do with my PC to recognize the pinmodded P3-S Tualatin 1.4Ghz?

Just update to the latest 1008 Beta bios. It will recognize as a Pentium II 1.4 ghz (as Robin4 mentioned)
